Exterior paint brand

Postby deckchair » Fri May 13, 2022 10:14 am

The outside of our house is in serious need of painting. Could anyone advise what paint brand is best for an exterior? We need stone and woodwork painting The last paint we used was supplied by the decorator who has since moved abroad and I cannot make contact so i don't know what brand it was.

My uncle who is a decorator told me Dulux weathershield for masonry & recommended Cuprinol for wood work… have yet to test but doing similar so have gone with his advice. I hear sandtex is good on masonry too.

Dulux Weather Shield is still the gold standard.

On wood it is a three part system. It is vital that the whole system is used not just the top coat in cheap primer and undercoat.

Used properly it lasts for ages.

My externals lasted 15 years on the weather side before needing a repaint.

Like all paints they are not as tough as they used to be due to the removal of the volatile organic components (solvents).
