Very fed up with foxes, need a bin store recommendation

Postby Pomegranate » Fri Sep 23, 2022 1:04 pm

I am totally fed up with having to put bin bags on my hands to clean fox rubbish up and think we need to invest in a bin store. Please could anyone recommend a company that has aesthetically pleasing stores. One where we won't have to wait until 2025 would be a plus too  ;) thank you.

Also very bored with foxes.

I found this old article - does anyone know if it's legal to shoot them?

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/h ... 63773.html

Wondering, seriously, if that's legal in Wandsworth?

What a horrible suggestion. Foxes are beautiful animals. You may not like them but plenty of us do and I’m always pleased to see one. Living in the middle of a city it’s good to see wildlife occasionally - and yes foxes are wild animals, not vermin. The attitude that humans own the planet is frankly why it’s in such a bloody mess.

Have you tried a locking bin? We had a whole family of foxes plus cubs living with us this year and although it was a joy to watch them they can trash the bins. Argos sell them quite cheaply and they lock so the foxes can’t open them.

I agree they're very lovely to see but it's the poo and rubbish and now they're damaging cars.

If foxes cause thousands of pounds of damage to cars, and they do, then I think they do need need a cull to reduce numbers.

Foxes and dogs cats hate pepper as it upsets their delicate sense of smell and will keep away from it.
To keep them away from bins and flower beds and lawns buy the strongest  cheap bulk pepper you can buy.(online as expensive way from shops!) It is 100% natural so will not hurt them plants or the environment.
Sprinkle in bins and around them and on the waste food in the bin bag.The same with grass and flower beds when dry or damp.
One sniff and they cant tell what is there so will go away. This is one of the reasons people have pepper sprays for dog attacks.

A few squirts of spray on bleach in each rubbish bag does the trick.

Inside the bin it does no harm to the environment.

Foxes etc don’t like the smell of it.

It also makes sure the bin doesn’t stink!

Damage cars? What evidence do you have for that? We have plenty of foxes where I live as it’s very near the common and neither of our two cars have been damaged by them. The only things that damage my car are idiot drivers getting too close - maybe we should cull them?

Hopping on here, as I was about to post about the damage that has been caused to our VW van due to foxes. Hundreds of pounds worth of chewed cables and sensors (nearly up to £1k of damage, twice  ), we can only assume foxes as we have a big family of foxes that live behind our block of flats. The VW garage is seeing more and more of this damage now and it's been written up in the standard and other places. It's an absolute nightmare, we've had to move the van to our in-laws out of London whilst we figure out a solution... apparently vans are more of an issue because the critters are able to crawl up underneath far easier.

So, I may try some of the pepper spray advice but it seems that these urban foxes stick two paws up to most deterrents. Anyone else facing the same issue....?
