Replacing the stained glass section of a front door?

Postby choc mint chip » Wed Aug 02, 2023 5:17 pm

We have a lovely but old front door but the stained glass section in the centre looks weak like you could put your had through it easily if you wanted to break in. Is there a way to have this replaced or would it be just as cheap to get a whole new front door?

We have clear glass panels that were added to the inside of the door behind each section of stained glass. They are almost invisible and this makes it v secure. Glaziers should be able to fit this for you. We have since had a couple of the stained glass panels repaired and there are specialists who can do that. It is nice to keep the original if you can. We used Robin Cooper for the stained glass.

Similarly, we have glass panels, but in front of each stain glass panel as well as a double glazed panel at the back. So they are protected and toughened double glazed panel makes it feel safer.
There is a stained glass workshop in Broomwood Road.
The original front doors are such good wood, nice to keep if possible.

Second the Stained Glass Shop. Marc is amazing. We have used him for several pieces at our home and recommended him to friends. He’s done many houses around the commons.

I’d suggest repair the leaded glass and install safety glass for added security.
