Wandsworth consultation on licensing ALL landlords

this is really interesting.

my gut feeling is that they're going to put in place a registration/monitoring system which can then be used to collect tax revenues in future.

I think if the government go after private landlords with hefty taxes, which are aimed at the landlords personally, then there won't be a huge amount of voter sympathy for the landlords and the money will be used on housing etc.

That's the theory - anyway!

If it is anything like other boroughs it is a way of making sure your rented out property is safe and comfortable for the tenant and checks PAT testing, smoke and heat alarms and fire retardant furniture and that not too many people are living in the property etc.  It checks window sizes too and many other safeguarding issues.  I've been through it in Southwark.  It is laborious and costly.  But once you get a licence you are done (I think for the next four years).
