Recommendations for someone to replace a boiler

Postby calgary » Tue Dec 06, 2011 11:43 am

Just had Pimlico Plumbers in to look at our 5yr-old boiler which apparently is not worth repairing (again)as the developer put in the absolute cheapest boiler. They've quoted £2500 all in  and while I'm certain that the work will be top quality I'd like to get a few more quotes from recommended & certified plumbers.

Any suggestions are very welcome!!!

Whether the quote is reasonable depends on what boiler you are getting for that price and what the installation includes ie thermostat, power flush etc.

I have a new boiler fitted by my plumber a couple of years ago and I picked a Worcester Bosch which have great reviews and included a digital wall thermostat and power flush of system.

Scoopy is absolutely correct, it does depend on the boiler and what other work needs to be done to get your system up and running correctly and reliably so it lasts.

Try Jon Pringle at The Build Team Property Services (020 7640 2276). They work locally having installed many Worcester Boilers - and in answer to your original question, can very likely beat the Pimlico quote.

I used Affleck property Services www.affleckservices.co.uk/ a year ago and had a Worcester Bosch Greenstar CDi37 fitted - they had quite a bit of work to do as an old back boiler had to be removed and hot tank etc had to be removed - it cost just over £4,000 which was similar to other quotes I got. I was very pleased with the work and the boiler is great - my gas bills have decreased! So yes I agree that price wil depend on the amount of work to be done - however do get a good boiler! I highly recommend this one. :D

Thanks everyone for your suggestions - they're much appreciated! The Pimlico quote was for a Valiant Pro24 with an external thermostat and a new plume kit as apparently our current one is barely legal (so they want to extend it).

I too would thoroughly recommend Jeremy Dunnill.

Having worked for Pimlico Plumbers, he is now self employed.

Jeremy is based Between the Commons and is reliable and reasonably priced.

His contact number is 07788 797448.

Just had my old boiler replaced by C. Anderson & Sons as Jeremy was unfortunately booked up for a few days (we really needed the work doing given we were suddenly without heat or hot water). All went well and the relief at getting a new boiler in is palpable. It makes me think that we should have got the visibly old one replaced earlier rather than wait for it to pack up entirely. We had 'John' fit it - he appears to take pride in his work which is nice to see. In terms of price, well, I believe the quote was comparable with A N Other reputable boiler fitter. The good news was that is was a fixed quote, including all required flushes of the radiator system etc. and materials (bear in mind the price of copper piping is hellishly expensive right now).

Overall verdict? Very satisfied.
