2 burglaries on Salcott Road!

Postby sw11_ » Fri Jan 17, 2014 11:48 am

A community support officer just knocked on my door to say there have been two burglaries on Salcott Road recently and that we should be extra vigilant and ensure we always double lock etc. One of them was accessed through a window at night time which is a bit scary. He told me what number houses they were although i won't post on here. We have an alarm which we use when we go out - i think we will start putting it on at night for the downstairs part of the house too...

One thing i found a bit weird - he asked me a few questions like whether there is normally someone at home during the day and whether we use our alarm - is there any chance he was actually a burglar posing as a PCSO or am i being too sceptical?

Annabel can you check with the local police if this is genuine? I assume it is...

Yes it is genuine. Sadly we were also burgled last night on Almeric Road. Took small electronics, wallets etc. They jammied open our front window despite window locks. Police said there has been a spate of them in last few nights in SW11 and SW12 in particular - Salcott, Limburg, Fontarabia roads were mentioned. So keep all your valuables as out of sight as you can!

Apparently there were also burglaries on both Chatto Rd and Grandison Rd in the early hrs of yesterday morning... (heard from 2 different friends).

Scary. Be careful everyone.

I know of two more on Leathwaite and Altenberg. Both via the front window. Apparently the window is open to the height of the window locks and then by some method, levered out.

Computers, cash easily portable items then removed back through the window. So ensure that the window catch is firmly shut so they can't open the window by the mearest degree. Security lights, alarms, noisy dog obviously a good defence here.

That is a lot of break ins which should produce a response from the Police. It would be interesting to know what that if anything, is.

Yes we had bolts but they rammed the window into the room like a door opening inwards almost. Window lock was in tact. Forensics said they have a suspicion who but need hard evidence - no fingerprints though.

So sorry to all those who have been burgled.

I've heard of a few recent burglaries where they've got in through locked sash windows. Does anyone know if PVC sashes offer better protection? We're about to get new windows so this is something I'd like to consider.

On a related theme, I heard today that a lady had her purse stolen from her changing bag in Balham library and £4k spent on her cards before she could cancel them, so keep an eye on your bags.

After reading this thread yesterday I checked my windows and the lock wasn't on properly so locked it and luckily I did, last night next door was burgled on Wiseton Road through the windows!

I believe another was burgled on Althorp Road.

V sad news for all those who have been burgled.

Have all these houses got hedges obscuring the front windows from the road or are the thieves brazen enough to do it in full view of the road?

The property on Wiseton has a very small hedge but would have easily been seen! They took as much cash as they could find but mostly food and sweets!! Poor old lady very shook up!
