Removal Firm recommendation

Postby firsttimerSW11 » Tue May 27, 2014 8:23 am

Hi all
A couple of questions this morning:

I am moving house and in need of a good removal company recommendation if anyone knows one. Moving within Wandsworth so not far.

Also, does anyone know the policy of having a removal company outside my house for several hours. Last time I paid for a permit for two days @ £80 or so but the cars on the street didn't move so the removal van just parked up in the middle of the street. I'm sure someone told me that you don't actually need to pay for a temporary permit, they can just block up the road for as long as they need. Does anyone know the official guidelines?

Ward Thomas Removals - I've used them numerous times both for me and my clients. They're fabulous, nothing too much trouble, nothing ever broken or missing. They also now own Aussie Man & Van who do smaller size removals. Also have used/know of Clockwork Removals - also very good.

We used Eco movers (part of the Cadogan Tate group): http://www.ecomovers.co.uk/man-and-van

They were great - reasonably priced, reliable and efficient. You can even change your booking online.

Re parking : I would check with the company/council - we provided a visitor permit, but the van driver still got a ticket as he had parked in a bay he was to long for and was overhanging the yellow line.

When I moved to the neighbourhood, I also applied for a bay permit but one car did not move. I called the council and they sent a tow truck to pick up the vehicle and transfer it to the other side of the street. It took two hours for the tow truck to arrive at which point my moving truck found a spot to park already. But just wanted to let you know that calling the council on the day itself is an option if your truck cannot find a space to park.

Ward Thomas definitely - they did us - amazing - tip though try not to move in all at once...especially if you intend to redecorate, store it and if you don't really miss it after a month or 2 do you really need it?

we have this online form on our website where you can get quotes from lots of people in one go. Might be worth a try to see what comes up.
I hear also good things about a gentleman and a van so probably worth a call to them.http://lifeafterlondon.com/quotes-from- ... in-london/

We used http://www.fsmithandson.co.uk/, family run, Croydon based and amazing. Moved 2 streets away from a rental back to the house after renovations in 2 stages. First day they packed the flat, second day moved everything from the flat and the storage into the house. Friendly, smiley and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble and nothing damaged or broken.

We are in Lambeth and have paid for 2 parking bays on the second day, took them 30 mins to move a car parked in 1 space. On the first day, asked a neighbor to park a car next to mine and have given the removal company a visitor parking sticker.

Good luck with the move!

I second a recommendation for FSmith and sons - they moved us twice, in 2010 and 2012 and were excellent both times.

In one of the moves, they had to take out a first floor sash window to move a sofa out - they used ropes. You just have to tell them in advance so they send an extra guy for that particular task who then goes back and you are left with the rest of the team.

They also were by far the most competitive - I always used Bushnells and Burke and Wills (not sure about spelling), and FSmith was close to half the cost. I, however, don't know how good they are with packing - we packed ourselves both times.

Re FSmith & Sons packing - 1 guy packed a 3 bedroom flat in 4 hours. Just unpacking now and all is in order and no breakages.
Quite a help when moving house with a 1 and a 4 year old!
We previously used Pickfords when moving from Australia to the UK - amazing service too, double the speed but double the price! It was paid by the company that relocated us here for work, so was worth it.

Another vote for Ward Thomas. Their pack and move service was probably the least stressful part of our move

Hi,

I came across Elephant Removals. They have a branch in Wandsworth. They were brilliant, amazing value for money, good work, handle your items with care.

A very much recommended company in my book.

Just thought I would add another recommendation for Anthony Ward thomas that we picked up on from Nappy valley. They literally moved us this week and they did a fantastic job. Really great team, they are very easy going, nothing was too diffcult, very helpful, hassle free and professional. Very impressive indeed

You may be sorted already but I think gentleman and a van offer a great service, definitely worth a chat.
