Experiences with Lofts and Extensions(L&E)of Twickenham

Postby Damo0765 » Tue Dec 02, 2014 1:40 pm

hi

Can anyone advise of their experiences of using Lofts and Extensions of Twickenham , otherwise known as Dontmove-extend.com.
We had an extension completed by them earlier this year and wanted to see what other people who had work done by them and their contractors made of the experience and if they are happy or not with the aftercare/final result.

We are using L&E for a loft conversion and a GF extension.

Can't comment on the aftercare yet, but we've been really pleased with the work they have done. Obviously L&E have a number of contracted teams, but our guys have been brilliant. The council BC chap has told us their work is good and the guys fitting the garden doors over the weekend also noted that the finishing was very good.

The foreman came up with a number of very practical solutions to stuff that arose (how best to hide pipes, suggested locations of electrics etc) based on their experience of doing lots of this type of work. Also displayed the patience of a saint as we kept changing things.

I guess it depends which team you end up with, and I suppose you can only really judge the work two years later, but really happy with what they have done for us. Can't wait to make use of the new kitchen!

Hope this helps.

hi DaiHappy , thanks for the reply.

We had our extension finished Jan this year. All I will say to you is be careful, we are having a few issues now. Both L&E and the contracted builder/electrician are doing all they can to wriggle out of any obligation to make good issues and taking their time to try and resolve them.

The general standard of building was good, we supposedly had the best team on the books at the time and had to wait 6 months for them. However the underfloor heating we had installed is and never has been right, and its affected the whole of the house with regard to the boiler/heating system.. Looks like we are going to have to get a specialist in to check the system.

Our tile floor in the extension has not been grouted correctly but the builder refuses to accept this even though the grout company Maipei came to inspect and said it was wrongly put down and needs totally re doing, Maipei even supplied a report to back it up.

Finally worst of all we are having a few issues with the electrics and because we upgraded some down lights off the contract they are point blankly refusing to say they have any liability as work was done off the contract despite the fact they were the ones who said to do it off contract !

It would defo be interesting to hear how anyone has fared with regard to disputes/issues with them.

I could go on !

Its frustrating as with a little customer service these are all things that could probably be fairly easily resolved. Its also extremely annoying you have to go thru a serviced office number to get a message to them and they then call you back.

Good luck with the rest of your build

Sorry I am too late on this but here is an article on my experience...
Hopefully I can ward others away. We are currently trying to sue them as repair costs are well over £40k and we don't want them doing the work as they have shown themselves to be incompetent of doing the job properly on more than one occasion.

Just avoid! Not really a building company rather a sub-contracting outfit who will do everything possible to avoid facing up to their responsibilities if anything goes wrong.  We had a nightmarish experience culminating in the pursuit of legal action once it became apparent they were utter shysters: we are still discovering evidence of their corner cutting years later.

Don't have any experience with L&E but we did get a quote from them. Thankfully we went with Greenlife Contractors, they aren't in Twickenham but they cover the south west area! We are super happy with the work they did and the finish, worth reaching out and getting a quote ! x

Hey There,

We used Lenny @ Hamilton Walters for ours last year and I cant fault them. You deal direct with the owners which just felt better for us. We had a few larger companies come and quote but they just wasnt personal enough for us. Price and time scales where comptitive and their references all passed the test as they were able to invite me to one of thier on-going projects not far from our house, where I was able to speak to their client and get their view and experience working with them too.

We used Lofts and Extensions back in 2015. They are highly professional and a very trustworthy company. Our build team were helpful and hand held us through the entire project. The quality of workmanship is outstanding.

When ever issues arose they was always dealt with promptly and efficiently. The office staff have a high level of responsiveness and respect. The L&E team checked in with us every 2 weeks during the build to ensure everything was running smoothly and if there was anything they could do to help. We are very happy with the service provided by L&E and would recommend anyone to them!

We had our Loft Conversion finished Dec 2018. I can honestly say L&E were amazing to work with! We were provided with a competitive quotation and decided to go ahead with L&E. Minor hiccups along the way as with any building project these was dealt with effectively and promptly by the surveyor and the build team. Our Loft Conversion is exactly how we imagined it to look and could not be any happier with the outcome!

Very happy with the service provided by L&E,

We used them for our Double Storey Rear Extension. This was the first time we had undertaken construction work on our property, so we was very nervous.

Our surveyor was very helpful and answered any questions / queries we had and guided us throughout our build.

The build team was excellent, could not fault them. Always arrived on time, kept site clean and tidy, dealt with queries promptly and finished the project within the time frame given.

Therefore we are very pleased with our build and the service L&E provided!

Our experience with Lofts and Extensions (L&E) was fantastic.

They recently completed a Single Storey Wrap around Extension to our Edwardian property and could not be more pleased. The service is excellent, they deal with everything from Planning applications, architectural drawings, building control through to the final finish.

The build itself was completed on budget, ahead of time and with a high level finish.

If your looking for a high standard building experience then look no further.

It’s funny, those last four testimonials sound almost like marketing speak. And were written so close together. By people who’ve only ever posted once. Strange...

Based on our experience, we would strongly advise everyone to avoid L&E and their many associated companies or directors (check Companies House for details).

You could use our builder Lenny @ Hamilton Walters. They done our loft conversion last year from scratch. Their architect Michael and Lenny took care of most of it which was great at the time as I was pregnant and my husband was away working a fair bit at the time so having a company take you from design right through to completion was a pretty stress free and enjoyable experience. It also allowed Lenny to make suggestions throughout which saved me money and time which is always good!

His number is: 07780004007 (I think they have a landline on their website?)

Sadly I have had a similar bad experience with L&E. I could write a book! It has cost me a small fortune getting work redone. Currently it’s the ongoing roof problem (which incidentally has leaked from the word go) costing me. I contacted one of the roofing federations for a reputable roofer to carry out a survey and write a report. The roof doesn't comply with current British Standards, cheap materials have been used, the tiles are slipping because no mechanical fittings are in place, nails used are already rusting because they haven’t used galvanised nails and it’s leaking. The work has to be done again. I have other aspects of the build to sort out too e.g. the drains & the vent pipe.

I think they have switched company names recently, transferring over all the original website info and of course they are still operating in and around the area.

I would be very interested to talk privately to anyone who is involved in taking legal action against them!
