Carpet advice please!

Postby Elsa09 » Thu Jan 15, 2015 11:06 am

I have recently bought a house in SW11, and have already moved in. The carpets are horribly stained and grotty. Am very keen to get them ripped up as soon as possible.
Can anyone suggest a reasonably priced company/independent who can talk me through options.
I am completely utterly clueless in this area. I have always previously had hard wood floors but with 3 little ones I think it's nicer for them to have carpets.
I'm worried that prices will escalate with someone who knows I'm clueless as to what's best. Does anyone have any idea roughly how much it would cost to do 3 bedrooms and a stairway ?
Also any advice on what type is most hard wearing? I have heard that you can get some that are much more easier to clean than others...help!!
Thank you

Hi, I have no idea how much that would cost - probably a 2 or 3 grand (but completely depends on square footage, type of carpet etc). I think wool carpets are washable. I personally would make an appointment with someone at a big chain like Carpetright to come and take a look and give you a quote. They won't be able to overcharge you if you're 'clueless' (I'm sure you're not!!) as they have standard rates. You can then use that quote to negotiate something for an independent shop if you find something you prefer. (Or you may like what Carpetright has to offer, in which case, that's sorted!)

Good luck!

(PS I totally agree with you, it just doesn't feel nice living on someone else's dirty carpets - that's always the first thing that I want to change!)

I'd like to recommend Peter Marlow, Marlows Carpets on East Hill, Wandsworth. We've recently purchased both carpet and Amtico vinyl from them and found him both very knowledgable, honest and competitively priced - I did quite a lot of research.

I had my carpets fitted with Marlow carpets and thought they were fantastic, and will defiantly be using them again very soon! Great service from start to finish. I also did a lot or research!

Avoid Marc Charles in South Wimbledon.
I have struggled with various carpet shops and I have tried buying carpet online and having it fitted by an independent fitter. That was a nightmare, storing a roll 5m long was not easy!
I was impressed by Carpetman when they quoted and I wish I had used them. I don't know if anyone has had experience of them? But they were competitive on price and the only reason I didn't use them was because they did not stock the particular carpet I wanted.

Hello I'm Gary Bristow from Bristowclean
In my experience you can't beat an 80/20 mix carpet, they wear very well and clean very well, especially spillages! They are also reasonably priced
Hope that helps
Gary
