Bin men throwing recycling in with general refuge

Postby Harbut dad » Thu Aug 20, 2015 8:51 am

I have noticed on repeated occasions that some bin men are throwing recycling in with the general refuge. This is really depressing as we spend time and energy making sure everything is well sorted.

I have reported this to the council but if anyone else sees it please email wasteservices@wandsworth.gov.uk

I will try and speak to the bin men directly next time but am normally in my pants at that time of day!

not a new phenominan.
seen it lots of times. There can be good and bad reasons why they do this, but just be happy you live in Wandsworth where the bin men aren't mafia enforcers fining you for having the wrong sort of plastic in the 7th bucket instead of the 8th.

not saying this is the case - but some of the newer trucks have a split back, and could have one side for rubbish and one for recycling...?

I have a two year old son - we spend a lot of time looking at trucks around SW London!

i have attached a photo example :-) (not taken by me....)

Really? Are you sure it was recycling? Fairy Viv's point about the split back trucks struck me, or I also wondered if maybe they could see through the clear plastic recycling bags that it was contaminated with non-recyclable waste, so binned it instead.

But then maybe I just like thinking the best of people :)

I notice there is no longer an "Orange Bag" skip at the Wansworth Dump in Smugglers Way but I am sure it is just so that general recycling can go there including orange bags. Like you I spend ages preparing the recycling and I feel it is so important that the bin guys put the orange bags in separately!

It is a split truck that has both general waste and recycling, but some of the bin men, not all, are throwing recycling bags into the general waste compartment.

Small point :D

When I was growing up we called them "dustcarts"

My children have always referred to them as "Dustbin Lorries" or "Rubbish Lorries"

I see that people are now calling the "Trucks"

I hope we don't all end up calling them by their full US name of " Garbage Trucks" ...

We used to call them 'Dust Van Dragons'. Being the youngest child I used to think it was the actual name for them.
