Loft extension

Postby JandS » Fri Jan 24, 2014 3:55 pm

Please can someone recommend a loft extension company? Urgently need to find a trustworthy one who can also arrange for mains water to come into the house instead of having a cold water tank in attic.

We've used lofts and extensions and my friend has A1 lofts in at the minute. Both of us happy with both companies and v similar price - about £37k for the lofts. Hope that helps

Has anyone any more views on roof extensions and who are the best firm to go with in SW11? I think I should have said roof extensions before rather than loft extensions! Also how much should one expect to pay? Thanks so much everyone for previous posts

I used 'Creative Development' and they were fantastic, I couldn't have been happier with the result! A friend recommended Neal as he had done a double floor extension and the outcome was amazing. I couldn't recommend him more highly. If you want details let me know

Doran Brothers. They're a long established, local firm and I've seen two loft extensions they've done for friends, both of which are fantastic. They'll deal with all re-routing of services etc as well.

We used Dermarta http://www.dermarta.co.uk/ for our loft extension (part of big overall building project finished just before Xmas) which turned out brilliantly. They're based in Tooting. Only thing is I think Dermot, the head honcho is away at the moment for a couple of weeks, but he might be picking up emails and/or his foreman, Les, would be on to it.
Dermot introduced us to an architect called Mike Robinson who did a great job and also sorted out all the planning regulations and whatnot.

Good luck!

I really would not recommend Doran Brothers. We didnt have a good experience with them. We decided to a pay bit more to take the pressure off by getting the work project managed...ha ha we hardly saw the brothers, if we did they were always in such a rush that contact felt really rushed. Most of the building work was fine however not always great attention to detail. Their ability to communicate well and project manage, fell short of our expectation. This made the whole experience much more painful than what it should have been.

When problams arose they fixed them quickly but we dreaded having contact with the brothers as our concerns were usually talked (or shouted) down. As a previous poster commented, they had quite bully attitudes.

Hi there..had loft done recently and went with large loft company that didn't really do much for their money but they did contract an excellent builder for us:

Robin Holthusen
Handz on tools Ltd (HOT)
robin.holthusen@handzontools.com
07545380272
0208 94 666 94
handzontools.com

I have posted previously singing their praises as we had no idea about building works when starting and found NVN helpful. They are highly conscientious, did a suoerb job (that has easily withstood the recent storms) and Robin always easy to contact and very patient and approachable for explanations and discussions. Feel free to contact me if you want more info about our experience with his company. We're actually getting them to do more work on our place now too.

XXXXXXX (removed by moderator) is one of the leading Loft extension service provider.

Note from Annabel: we do ask that firms don't promote themselves :-)

There is plenty of Loft Companies that you can't rely on. The reason for that is.
1.
People want cheap prices loft + en-suite bathroom/shower for £30k . There is not way to make such loft for this money( materials+labour+vat ) and on top of that guarantee. Not a chance.

2. Those companies (wouldn't mention name as it will be removed but I hope all we know which ones) thy get sub-contractors. So the big boss comes at the begging to sign contract and at the end to collect money , the main work is done by other company and usually the if boss takes 25% off the price if not more. So why should they worry about making your loft good ? They will use rubbish materials and as quick as possible.

3. Guarantee. Forget about guarantee. If those companies have e.g 20 projects in a month and do rubbish work and all those people complain. Do you think that they will come back to fix it free of charge. No such thing.

Hope it will help when you consider to do your loft.
Good luck.

Hi there, we used New London Interiors - Adam Laing 07950 136 554 - www.newlondoninteriors.co.uk I have recommended him to a few fellow NV-ers (is that what we are called?) that used his company and they were all very happy.
