tummy tuck or lipo?

Has anyone had lipo or a tummy tuck? Post 2 c sections I'm considering options for reducing mummy tummy. yeah I know I know... exercise... diet... I do eat pretty healthily and I would like to fit in more exercise than I do but y'know it's not easy to fit it in with little kids. So please spare me health and fitness advice (on this occasion)...

What I'd love to hear about is anyone experience of having their stomach size reduced. How does one find a surgeon even... this is not something I have any experience of.

Your GP should be able to recommend a surgeon

A friend had a tummy tuck after twins and is happy - no idea about scarring
Not sure how long the recovery period is - you may need childcare for some of it

Have you thought of trying one of the reshaping corsets as an alternative - they are supposed to help

seriously... yes, I'm not asking this question lightly, I'm interested to know from people who have experience of it. 2 sections has left me with quite a scar already. I wasn't sure if it would be in a different place.

I'm pretty sure you didn't come on here for a lecture! It beats me how people can be so judgemental.

A friend of mine has had both a tummy tuck and lipo from a reputable surgeon and it more than happy with her results.

Petal, I hear you , truly I do. This is not about me not feeling good enough for others, it is a recognition that I want improve my appearance for myself. Believe me I get the whole nonsense about body image and pressure that women and girls get regarding their bodies. This is just an option that I want to explore. My thinking partly is that if I can get a slight headstart with this specific area of my body I will be more inclined to maintain it and therefore my health will benefit. Currently it is almost insurmountable and it just pisses me off. If I decided to have a procedure for me I am good with that. I appreciate your concern and your points and am honoured to get sister status.

I've also consider getting both done. I'm not put off my scar of the tummy tuck as it fades but it's more the recovery that I've read is supposed to be hurrendous.

I wouldn't do liposuction as it would just made my skin look saggy but I have read in to a relatively new treatment called body tight which is supposed to be amazing.

Dear Ladies,

From. Post natal physio point of view I know how distressing the Mummy Tummy can be.A couple of extra points are re the abdominal muscles I am seeing many ladies with DRAM where there is Divarication - separation - of the Recti Abdominis Muscles everyone is concerned about "closing the gap" by hopefully doing the correct abs eg Transverse Abdominis exercises NOT planks etc.BUT it does NOT matter about the gap closing as long as the fascia beneath has tension ( eg on a slight head lift ) IF there is no tension ,there will not be function so the pelvis is unstable & daily life lifting babies etc difficult.
Surgery for a tummy tuck =Abdominoplasty BUT if there is a DRAM that is causing the pooch ing tummy then a RECTI PLICATION is also needed including a full thickness repair of the post rectal sheath.The surgery will take 5 to 7 weeks to heal then a 12 week post op rehab programme so not an easy option !

Good luck with whatever route you choose, I have never been the same shape since kids and it really gets to me too. I'm just very scared of such an unregulated area of "medicine" and doing something I'd regret or or which would cause other problems. My only word of advice is that a friend had lipo (thighs) and found that the recovery was very tough and got her down so much she felt that she put the same weight back on due to feeling so shocked and not being able to exercise - she had weeping wounds down both sides of both legs for many weeks, had to wear tight post-surgical shorts to encourage recovery of the tissue around the area and wasnt allowed to do even moderate exercise for quite a while. It sounded quite horrific to me, but I'm a bit of a wuss maybe! I can't believe that a tummy tuck scar is as significant as some people suggest compared with a Caesarian scar, perhaps this is something which depends on the surgeon's skill and your body?

Don't waste your money on lipo. it won't achieve what you want. You will need a tummy tuck for that. I know somebody who had one. She was in a great deal of pain afterwards, it is one of the worst cosmetic surgeries you can have. But she looks fantastic now and is pleased with the result.

She had four children and was slim with a lot of loose skin. she could never have dieted or exercised it away. Surgery was the only solution.
