Road rage from a local businessman

Postby Cyclist » Mon Jun 01, 2015 6:21 pm

Hello All
This is a pretty unpleasant post to have to write and if the moderators want to take it down then I'd understand.

However.

There is an awful road rage video on the front page of the Daily Mail of a Land Rover Discovery owner threatening to beat up a cyclist in Richmond. The video is horrible and shocking and upsetting.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... euvre.html

My understanding is that the Land Rover in the video is linked (registration LB10 SFJ) can be linked to the owner of a very famous chain of SW London cafes.

If it is him then he deserves to have no-one visit one of his cafes ever again.

How do you know it's him?

That's a pretty damaging assumption to make if it's not.

I'd be very very careful.

If you Google the number plate there is a photo of him.

It's pretty conclusive

I feel a bit uncomfortable about his identity being outed on this forum. I think you need to be careful.

One of the reasons I suggested the moderator might want to take it down is I wasn't sure it was definitely him.

However it's now "out" on other sources

http://rate-driver.co.uk/LB10SFJ

So I don't think it's an issue.

I'm guessing there will be some pretty major social media advice going on

How damaging is something like this for his business?

I can never work out if it's a nightmare and one never recovers as it'll always be "Brew Owned by the Road Rager" or if it's just something that is tomorrows chip wrapping?

Gosh, won't be going back to Brew. That is absolutely shocking. What a nasty man. I hope the police take some action.

Gosh, as a regular cyclist this is quite emotive for me, as I genuinely have met drivers like this who seem to hate cyclists enough to wish them harm, and I've been hit by drivers who haven't stopped, and also threatened before (broad daylight by smithfields market) by one who did stop - which I still find unbelievable. I'm so glad that another cyclist stopped to bear witness and give moral support. What a shameful incident.

I've seen this on another cycling forum being a 'mamil'. On the original post you'll see why the rider doesn't use the cycle path:-

1. It's not wide enough and leads the rider into trees and other obstacles.
2. It's too close to busy pedestrian traffic
3. It's poorly maintained
4. As with many paths it was designed by an idiot. The path ends at the National Tennis Centre feeding directly into pedestrians, then across their driveway swings back to the original path.

Obviously the guy was having a bad day (understatement) but it's somewhat ironic a guy driving a 4x4 saying the cyclist is taking up too much space! Note the headphones dangling, undoubtably in his ears only seconds previously. Priory Lane onto RP is a rat run during the week and thus this incident is all too common.

However his reaction is pretty............extreme!

I don't want anyone to think I am condoning the drivers behavior which was absolutely shocking. But I am alone in thinking the cyclist was not exactly brilliantly behaved either ? He was shouting plenty of "c" words to the driver and really provoking him, not exactly helping matters ?

But the drivers response is truly horrendous. The guy needs some serious anger management therapy !

Good news is that he won't be able to afford a newer 4x4 than his 5 year old Discovery after business now struggles at Brew. Nothing there you can't get elsewhere.
