Belleville Meteor site - dropoff and pickup

Postby IsabelleB » Mon May 18, 2015 8:21 am

How do parents manage the dropoff and pickup to belleville meteor site? Given the catchment area, most of them must live quite far from the school? Do you still walk to the school - how long? Does the school organise a minibus service between the two sites? Do working parents let their nannies drive their kids to school? Do parents help each other by taking turns? Thanks a lot

My daughter is in reception at meteor. We walk to school every day and it takes 10 minutes to walk max. We live near Broomwood Rd. We walk across the common and it is actually really lovely. When my nanny takes her she walks too.

There isn't a shuttle service but once you get to know the other mums then everyone helps each other out. As the catchment is so small, everyone lives close to each other.

It is a bit weird walking in the other direction to other Belleville children but you soon get used to it.

It is a lovely site, small and welcoming. You will love it.

Hi IsabelleB,

As Curly says, it's really not that hard and any hassle of the extra walk is easily overcome by just how fantastic the school is. My girls are in reception and year two and utterly love it there. I only get to do the school run once a week but I think that lots of Mums or nannies will be able to help out if needs be.

I'd agree with both the posts above. Lots of the kids attending live towards the top/ clapham common end of BTC and therefore you are sure to meet other kids and parents from the site on the walk over. There is also a breakfast and after school club on site at meteor. It's a great school.

As curly says, it's a bit odd passing kids walking in the other direction to the Webbs site, but I guess that's a different thread!

Would it be wrong to move close to meteor site once your child's place has been confirmed? It would be out of the catchment area (which is defined relatively to webbs road site) but much more convenient...

If you only have one child then is an option. However if you have a sibling then you have to stay within 800m of the webbs site to qualify for the sibling policy.

Can I move during summer as this would be more convenient or do I need to stay in the catchment area ie quite far from the school until September (or even longer?) Will people feel that's cheating?

I was under the impression that the sibling rule change for Belleville hadn't taken place yet as we only received the note about the consultation a few months ago? I could be wrong but it would be worth checking with the school as if it hasn't been adopted yet (and depending on the age of your additional child) then you might be able to move now.
