Experience Carmen Suite ?

Postby Matmel » Wed Jul 18, 2018 3:41 pm

Hello Ladies
Who’s had a recent experience of the Carmen suite in St George’s ? I could find some reviews on the internet but nothing recent. I’d love to hear your thoughts if you had your baby there.
I am low risk and now seriously considering that option.
Cheers !

I am a local antenatal teacher and doula so know quite a bit about all the local hospitals and have recently spent 9 weeks on the Carmen Suite as a student midwife so let me know if you want to hear more, or it may be that you'd rather hear from recent mothers.

I gave birth there last September, think I picked the busiest night of the year for it. Had to labour on their antenatal ward until a room came available and by 7cm I had the choice of them clearing out essentially a large cupboard and popping a bean bag in there or moving to the labour ward as all three rooms were still in use. As luck had it, as they were preparing said cupboard the woman in the one room that had a working pool transferred out so given the choice, I hung on another hour in the ward for the waterbirth. The second birth pool had been broken for months, although would hope it’s fixed by now and possibly the third in place as planned? Worth asking if you’re set on a Waterbirth. Happy to answer any other specific questions, though I’m sure there are more recent experiences than mine.

Also - they do an active birth course which is worthwhile, it includes a tour of the unit.

Another big pro of giving birth there is having one midwife the entire time. Ours stayed two hours after her shift ended to not miss the delivery so we had two midwives by the end.

I had my daughter there last Monday and thought they were great. My son was born in the delivery suite 2 years, who were fab during the induction and delivery but felt once the baby was out the midwife just wanted us out of there too. The Carmen Suite were fab from start to finish.

Hello!
I had my first daughter there two years ago & it was great and recently I had my induction (& most of the birth) for my second daughter there and they were also great. LOVELY midwives, nice calm atmosphere.
