I'm not sure the Riot Chicken Shop next to the old Carphone Warehouse site is going to add much to the area!  😂

I do think a vet practice is a good shout. There are so many families with dogs in the area it must take an age to get an appointment at one of the few existing ones.

Not on Northcote Road, but Blacks on St John's Road is closing down. I always found it useful, sorry to see it go.

The reason the shop choice is limited is because of the business rates. Many 'boutique' shops aka small business are not able to afford the £800-£1500 per month which has no benefit to the business in any way. Although there has been a 30% reduction for 2 years this has caused the demise of the small businesses on the high street and only the 'corporate' shops aka LK Bennett, Space NK can afford to swallow this tax. This is also caused the shops to have to hike up prices so they can survive. As a Londoner growing up in the 70's/80's we had so many individual shops, boutiques, haberdashery's etc which made the high street vibrant. Now all we have is the same homogenised outlets that you see everywhere. Very sad and it has taken the real fun out of shopping imo. I am trying to raise the profile of scrapping business rates and its just another tax on top of everything else we pay

JulianTenniscoach I kid you not I have my lunch from Riot Chicken once a week and it is the BEST grilled chicken i’ve Ever had. Not sure what they put in their marinade but they should take it to the grave!

Agreed Chicken Riot is good. Not sure they quite know if they are fast food, take away or eat in - but food is good. Worth a visit.

Gave it a try last weekend.  Quite good and a definite step up from KFC.  Bold step opening opposite Nando's though.

The former Chicken Cottage opposite Debenhams (Wimpy a long time ago) has a Nandos licensing form in the window now. I'd assumed Whole Foods were taking over the whole block.

Jacqueta the upmarket baby clothes shop next to Warren's bakery has shut to be replaced the other side of Warren's by................ another upmarket baby clothes shop (Babymino, miro?).  Warren's itself has shut for a refurb' but I'm not convinced it will reopen by the look of it.

The old Opus site is going to be a jewellery shop, but aside of that, there are still an awful lot of empty sites.  Tough times for retail.

Even more bad news.  Brissi has gone into liquidation from immediate effect.  Last day today to get whatever stock is left at sale prices.

Would be a shame to see Warrens close, but it never seemed busy.

Also closing is Bill’s, with an odd note in the window saying they received an offer that was “too good to refuse”, basically.

Already closed is the Scottish Malt Whiskey Society, didn’t last long.

Looks like restaurants in particular are struggling at the moment.

And step2wo is closing too. Not sure when but they’re running down stock so not long.
What a shame.

We heard today that Northcote Music is closing down which is a sad sign of the times we live in.

Andy said that people go in, use his expertise then go off and buy on Amazon.

Not only are we losing a retailer but also an expert and repair and instrument servicing provider.

He has said to please spread the word as he wants his stock gone asap.

Having until now borrowed a school instrument we bought a trumpet yesterday for £220 reduced from £440. There is pretty much 50% off all instruments.

Please tell family and friends, schools etc. This is a great opportunity and would help Andy enormously. I must admit I felt rather ashamed to be taking advantage of this situation but as he said, it is what it is and he wants his stock sold.
