Sleep trainer for an 8 year old

Postby Lushka1 » Thu Jun 25, 2020 9:10 pm

Im looking to get some advice on sleep and getting to sleep - its for an 8 year old boy that despite a routine cant fall asleep for hours & it has a big impact.  Can anyone recommend a sleep trainer .  I know there is sleep munchkins who are highly recommended but they only go up to 5 years old.

thank  you

We’ve had a mountain of sleep problems with my eldest- also (nearly) 8. I think by the time you get to 7/8 it’s not really the domain of a sleep trainer. Our daughter benefited from going to see a play therapist who was able to work through some of her anxieties with her. Ultimately one needs to get to the source of why they can’t fall asleep....

A few years ago I got a recommendation on this site for the Millpond children’s sleep clinic. I had a young child at the time and typically the matter resolved after I filled out their questionnaire, but when I was doing my research they appeared to deal with older children rather than toddlers. When I said it to my GP she knew about them but they are private not NHS.

We’ve been recommended HappySleepers for the same issue

They look at anxieties and methods to help sleep

We haven’t used them yet

We used Su and can't recommend her enough. She is doing virtual stuff atm (we have used her during lockdown and it worked)

Her website is sumoulana dot com (it won't let me add the link)

Ann Caird from Nurturing Sleep is amazing. I’m not sure how old she goes up to (Mine are much younger) but she works on emotional well-being and sleep together. She has changed motherhood for me. Good luck x

I had problems getting to sleep when I was a child. Looking back I never felt tired when I went to bed - it’s very hard to fall asleep if you’re not tired. I was not allowed to read in bed so I just lay there thinking! Why don’t you try moving his bedtime to an hour later? Stop him looking at screens for a couple of hours before and give him a book to read. Make sure his room is really dark. If he still finds it hard then you could maybe try him with an app such as Calm which reads really boring bedtime stories! Good luck!
