Stiff neck

Postby Mrs Contractor Mum » Fri Sep 23, 2011 3:54 pm

Can anyone recommend a good massuese that works in the evenings? I am back at work now sitting at a desk and its not doing my neck and shoulder area any good. By the time I get home and have my hour of playtime, bathtime, story time with my son before he goes to bed most places are shut. Weekends go by far too quickly and I feel guilty not spending that time with the family so evenings are my best bet.
On a more generic point, can I ask how do mums find time for themselves? Between work, my son, my husband, keeping on top of the basics at home and sleep I don't have any time for myself anymore.

Siam beauty!!!

Best massage you will ever ever have! £30 for 1 hour which includes a steam and a sauna. You can normally get appointments on the day too.

Totally agree with Siam beauty, had countless massages there and every one of them has been amazing. And they're open late every night and half the price of everywhere else.

Hi Contactor Mum

I totally sympathise with what you are going through. I am a mum of three and I know all too well the difficulties juggling home and work life. It's not easy to take time out for yourself. I'm guilty of that too. That's why I set up my massage business to be available not only during weekdays but also evenings from 8pm. I work from my home but I also do home visits to my clients in the local area. I can do Holistic, Aromatherapy (I'd strongly recommend) and Indian Head massage.

For mobile treatments I charge £55 an hour. When I work from home its slightly cheaper.

If you are interested please call me on 07766 224 135

All the best
Naomi

Thanks for the Siam beauty recommendations. I tried them out and went for the deep tissue massage. At the time it felt like every bone was being pulled apart by a chisle and hammer and put back again in the right place. Felt exhausted afterwards so I have slept really well over the last two nights and I can now move my neck without sounding like a creaky door.
Naomi - I will keep your details for next time.

Hello!
I feel your pain! You should try Joanna Cooper - 07790 108 222 / joannacooper22@yahoo.co.uk - she works wonders on me and she's happy to come to the house and work around whatever the small people are up to! she has a mobile couch and just sets up wherever, even when my little boy is playing around on the floor.
Enjoy! :D

I had a stiff neck too, and my shoulders were absolute agony and I remembered seeing this post ao I went along to Siam beauty last night. Oh my word, it was one of the best things that ever happened to me! I am transformed today.

Without a doubt, best massage I've ever had, and I've had plenty. I get really sick of people who are obviously going through the motions - you tell them what hurts or where you want to be massaged and yet they still just give you a kind of general, all over rub.

I told my masseuse my neck and shoulders were sore and she went to town on them. Brilliant and so reasonably priced. I'm addicted!

I have suffered from neck problems most of my life, and from seeking professional advice, if I haven't time to go and see someone, there are some brilliant stretches that provide some relief until you can see someone.

1) clasp hands in front of you, palms facing out, and stretch forwards as far as you can whilst bringing your chin down to your chest and hold.
2) sit on your right hand, put your left hand on your right ear over the top of your head, and let the weight of your arm bring your head down towards your left shoulder, and then do the same sitting on your left hand etc. Do not pull your head down, it is a very gentle movement, and no effort is needed to feel the stretch.

I am no professional physio/masseuse of any kind, these are just stretches that work very well for me given by various physios over the years.

It also sounds as though your chair is at the wrong height to your desk and your screen needs adjusting too. When sitting at your desk, your elbows should be by your sides and forearms at right-angles without putting pressure on your wrists, and your screen should then be directly in-front of you without you bending your neck. The company you work for are legally require to provide any necessary advice/equipment to make sure your working posture is correct.

I hope your neck sorts itself out soon, I know how horrendous it can be.

PS, sleeping on your back with a towel rolled up under your neck without pillows works wonders too.
