Do you have plans for the Platinum Jubilee weekend?

Postby Community Editor » Fri May 13, 2022 11:10 am

The extended bank holiday weekend, to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, is nearly upon us and we'd love to hear what the NappyValleyNet community is doing to celebrate this special occasion.

Will you be attending a Big Jubilee Lunch street party? Are you planning on heading into Central London to experience some of the events put on by the Palace or are you off to the Derby at Epsom? Perhaps you're a local business who's putting on something extra special over the four day bank holiday weekend?

Whatever your plans are do please share them with the NappyValleyNet community below, and don't forget to dig out those Union Jack flags and bunting!

We will be slap bang in the middle of exams. So kind of the government who, having utterly messed (you can substitute a stronger word) up kids’ education for the past two years have then given absolutely no thought to them when it came to deciding on the dates of the Jubilee celebrations.

The annual Trooping the Colour event will take place on Thursday, June 2, featuring 1,500 officers and soldiers, plus 250 horses from the Army’s Household Division on Horse Guards Parade.Following the parade will be a military flypast featuring more than 70 aircraft–which is more than three times the number of aircraft that took part in the Queen’s last birthday parade in 2019.

To celebrate this historic year, the team at No3 Bistro has designed an afternoon tea with a doff of the hat to Her Royal Highness record-breaking 70 years on the throne.

As well as taking in the decadent surroundings our guests have come to love here at No3 Restaurant and Bistro at Nightingale Place, we'll be sprucing things up with a patriotic Jubilee touch for the extended weekend. There will be summer street parties across Lambeth to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee over the special four-day bank holiday weekend from Thursday, June 2 to Sunday, June 5.
Brockwell Park, between Herne Hill and Tulse Hill, will also be hosting Jubilation on June 2, a ticketed event, which is free for accompanied under-10s, and is being headlined by British musical legends Madness.
A community event will follow on June 25 and June 26 at Loughborough Community Centre, Max Roach One O’clock Club & Adventure Playground hosted by The Flying Seagull Project, a children’s arts charity.
They will be providing circus, entertainment, music and fun, while the The Felix Project will also be there providing food with chefs on hand preparing food for the event using surplus supplies in partnership with young people who took part in Bite Back 2030’s Community Food Champions pilot.
Families will be invited to attend, with plenty of activities for children, food provided as well as performances from the children that they have volunteered to put on and have been rehearsing. The event, which is backed by the National Lottery Community Fund also involves local charity groups.
In total Lambeth will see 61 street parties happening during the Jubilee Weekend, from June 2 to June 5, with half happening on the Sunday. Lambeth Council’s Events and Highways teams have been working with residents to ensure the impact of road closures are minimised.

Here's what's happening at The Hope, Bellevue Road:
Celebrate like royalty from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th of June at The Hope.
Kick-start the festivities by sipping on a glass of our limited-edition Jubilee cocktail, the Chambord Spritz. Refreshing, delicious and just a little bit noble.
Join in the Big Jubilee Lunch occasion on Sunday with our classic Sunday Roasts. And what are royal festivities without a glass of fizz to complement your favourite roast? After all, Her Majesty isn’t the only one who deserves a celebration.

There's a family music event taking place on the Old York Road (near Wandsworth Town station), run by the Wandsworth Town Businesses.

There will be live music on stage and in an acoustic tent, stalls, funfair rides and (hopefully) some street performers.

The event is taking place on Sunday 5 June, 11am -5pm, and it's free to attend.
