Beatrix Potter or Swaffield?

Postby CCS_118 » Fri Nov 18, 2022 4:29 pm

I was wondering if anyone has considered both Beatrix Potter and Swaffield and could share what made them choose one over the other. I'm sure both are great - we've seen both and are torn!

Don’t know anything about Swaffield but our 2 children went to BP and left last year. Unfortunately the last head totally outstayed his welcome and the school became sub standard in many areas. Since leaving they are thriving in another local state school.
I’ve heard it’s on the up now due to the new Head so would recommend speaking to a current parent. My concern would be if the new head has managed to turn it around enough as they really had a lot to do..
On a plus though the school / parent community there is great!

I can’t speak highly enough of Swaffield, my children were there from nursery until year 6 and had the best all-round education I could’ve wished for.. They were happy every single day, it is a very warm and caring school. The head is an amazing lady, as are all the teachers who work so hard.
My children are very settled in their secondary schools now, which I think is testament to the preparation they had from Swaffield.
Please do ask if you have any more questions as I could just go on and on!

All my children have been at Beatrix Potter and whilst it's true that the last head outstayed his welcome, the new head is doing fantastic things and the school has improved immeasurably.
I was very disappointed when my older children were there and moved them, but my youngest is still there and doing well.
Not only has the academic standard improved but the availability of extra curricular subects and communication with parents. The PTA are very pro active and the community generally are very friendly.

I don’t have experience with BP. My daughter has been at Swaffield since reception, she is in Year 5 now. We are very happy with the school, it’s a warm welcoming and nurturing school. The head knows every child and is there every day at drop off and pick up for parents to speak to. The facilities are great and has sunrise and sunset club which is so helpful for working parents as can be block booked or on an adhoc basis. Extra curricular is good too, my daughter is currently doing cooking and athletics.
I think proximity to home/work is important to look at if you’re rushing; but otherwise I’d go with your gut on which you prefer. Good luck x
