Orthodontics

Postby AbbevilleMummy » Fri Jul 19, 2024 11:13 am

Does anyone have any recent recommendations for orthodontists for my 14 year old please?

She has slightly wonky teeth at the front and won’t qualify for NHS treatment I don’t think.

There are so many different options out there from train tracks, to Invisalign and Six Month Smiles. Ideally I’d like somewhere that does it all and so can recommend which is the best option for her. And also somewhere who isn’t going to charge the earth!

Many thanks

My 13-year-old son had train tracks fitted top and bottom at the start of the year by Dr. Kiarash Banai, at our dentist practice, SW Smiles, on Queenstown Road.

It's so far been a pleasant experience for both him and I, seeing as I have to take him every six weeks for an appointment!

Which is more than can be said for his initial consultation at Battersea Orthodontic Practice - very odd and frankly offensive character there who also wanted to charge the same price for just the top set of braces that our dentist is charging for both top and bottom!

Just to add, my son didn't qualify for NHS treatment, which is the only reason we went to Battersea Orthodontic Practice in the first place, to get the NHS assessment done. His teeth were a bit gappy, a few needed straightening and he has an overbite. His treatment is costing less than £2k for fixed braces, which he needs to have for nine months to a year to sort out his teeth issues.

Whatever you do don’t do 6 month smile or whatever it’s called .
All they do is “initial alignment” braces do the same only the rest of the time is making sure the bite is correct and final placement is what takes time.

You don’t want to mess with the bite, especially on young kids.

I’d go with whatever treatment is recommended.

I have heard weird stuff about the Battersea rise practice as well.

I wonder what others think of the NHS Stockwell practice mentioned above .

I can’t recommend Orchard in Brixton highly enough. Referred by my dentist in Clapham, my son started Invisalign (didn’t qualify for nhs so chose this route instead of train tracks) with them 3 months ago and the difference already is incredible. They are not cheap (£4k) but they are so professional and very available if you need advice in between appointments. Every member of staff there knows their stuff and are really lovely.

I can highly recommend Nilufar at White and Co on Battersea Rise. My daughter went here after not qualifying for NHS treatment and had great treatment with fixed braces. We got a few quotes and it was more economical than the others and has been brilliant. Nilufar is a real perfectionist.

We self-referred to Dr Niloufar at White & Co on Battersea Rise, my son will have his braces off in August and has a fantastic smile now - didn't qualify for NHS so around £4k. I have commented on another post about orthodontist treatment at The Orthodontist Practice, Battersea. We were originally referred there by our dentist a few years ago before my son started his treatment but were quite disturbed by how we were treated there. The orthodontist Dr Sam pulled an only slightly wobbly tooth out from my son's mouth with absolutely no warning to either of us at our assessment meeting which was completely out of order. He just grabbed his tool and pulled it straight out - blood everywhere - and my son was hysterical afterwards. I was so shocked I was speechless and should have complained at the time. I certainly would not recommend them at all. He has always been fine at the dentist and this could have put him off for life - it was completely unnecessary and very painful since the tooth wasn't even properly wobbly. A very strange character indeed. Given the number of reports of his strange behaviour I sometimes wonder how he is still practicing at all.

Wimbledon Orthodontics in Tabor Grove were fantastic. They treated my son (with first a plate and then train tracks followed by Invisalign) on the NHS as he was eligible - however they also take private patients.

My daughter was treated at The Dentist in Balham privately as she didn’t fit the NHS criteria (train tracks and then Invisalign). They were also fantastic and I highly recommend Chris Penrose there.

We have been under the care of Dr Niloufar at White and Co for 18 months and couldn’t be happier
We had unpleasant experience with Samir (the other one on battersea rise), overselling, over pushy and rather familiar. I wouldn’t go there unless the nhs pays for it.

Do not go near the Battersea Orthodontic Practice!  I cannot describe how bad the treatment my daughter got there is and the owner, Sam, is a misogynistic, overbearing bully.  We had a horrible experience, complained about the end result and not only are my daughter's teeth now ruined, she was traumatised by the whole experience (as was I).

Just to counter some of the posts above , we had a really good experience with Battersea Orthodontics and Dr Sam. Yes, he is marmite character. But he got my child who is extremely complex happily through orthodontic treatment.
