In partnership with the American country music singer’s Imagination Library program 12,000 children in Lambeth are being offered the opportunity to get a new book every month.
Parents can register their new-born to five-years-old children at imaginationlibrary.com, and the site also details which books will be sent out.
Councillor Ben Kind, Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education, said: “Lambeth Council is thrilled to be working with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to help inspire a love of reading in Lambeth’s youngest residents.
“Helping children develop strong reading skills from an early age is essential for their future. Being able to access your imagination sets the path for lifelong learning.
“We’re working ‘9 to 5’ to make sure Lambeth is the best to grow up and all of Lambeth’s children have the best start possible with a new book every month.
“This initiative will help them build strong educational foundations and keep their excitement for learning alive.”
Imagination Library books are specially selected, high-quality titles. They are personalised with the child’s name and sent directly to their home.
