I'm sure the fish stall used to be one of the fishmongers on Northcote Road. I remember hearing they closed the shop and opened up a stall instead because the rent was too high - ask them and see!

My wish list would be a gym, soft play area, cash point with no charge and a nice ready meals shop and/or deli! A fish restaurant would be nice too.

Another nice family friendly gastro-pub. Service at the Bollingbroke is abysmal and the other pubs around are either dreary 'old man pubs' (e.g. the Eagle on Chatham) or soulless (All Bar One, Bank, etc) or not family friendly (Holy Drinker, Bank on a sunny afternoon, etc.). Somthing more like the Northcote. And a deli that doesn't charge the earth. And a take-out sushi place, like Itzu. :)

So really if we were to decide the fate of these sites, we'd never agree... I'd love to see a baby Gap. I was so hopeful that they'd snap up the carpets space and they can afford such rents. and it would go like hot cakes here. and no, the one in southside is not enough!

a chocolatier with a cafe inside - like maya chocolate or something similar.

and could we not replace debenhams with john lewis, albeit small one? debenhams will never give up that space though.

and a fab kids club - but off the high street, somewhere close by.

no more dust gathering shops!

Here is an idea - the former Tyre centre site at the bottom of Chatham Road/Northcote Road could be a glass covered food court with deli/wet fish/fruit and veg/butchers etc/cafe/restaurant in the style of Daylesford Pimlico or Bluebird on Kings Road

Ooh, I like you thinking Ballantine... Could probably squish a decent soft play in there too!

(although hubbie grumbling just yesterday about where on earth were we going to MOT car!)

Pizza Express would be great, they are brilliant for kids but battersea rise too far, even strada a bit too far! I miss marzano so much, there is no where else. I wish bueno sera or all bar one would serve kids tea
if not pizza express then another Dandelion (bit closer to me as I live on mallinson road) - so slightly lazy as you may have gathered

I agree with Jafina, I would love a Wagamama's on Northcote Road! I know it is a chain but I love it as do my two boys and I'm sure they will do really well in the area.

I know there probably isn't enough space on NCR but a public swimming pool would be amazing with a soft play area like at Latchmare leisure centre but hopefully with a clearer changing area! :D

I can also confirm there is a new "Italian style" deli opening next to Northcote Pharmacy. They will have outdoor seating at the back and a largish eating area apparently. I heard from the pharmacist who I collared as he was walking out of the neighbouring "deli in the making".
I was on my way down Northcote Road to find somewhere to eat tea with my daughter as a treat (actually an excuse not to bother cooking for once!). Really struggled to find anywhere suitable in the absence of Crumpet and Boiled Egg and Soldiers. Ended up at Al Gusto, which actually worked quite well. She liked the Pasta Carbonara there although it was really a little rich for a 2 year old. But how can the heart of Nappy Valley no longer have a child focussed eatery? I simply can't believe there isn't sufficient demand here to keep one afloat.

For all those struggling to find a place for lunch/tea for their kids, the Bandstand Cafe on Clapham Common is FAB for children. The food is great, not just for kids but adults too. It's not Northcote Rd, but it's not too far away!

Does anyone know what has happened to the Tyre Centre on Chatham Road, who owns it now, is it for sale, what's going to happen to the space etc...? Someone should turn that place into all of the businesses this forum is dreaming of for Northcote...!

A Barclays/cash machine would be good. And a new Gail's - not Gail's per se but something similar, i.e. a child-friendly cafe/bakery but with bread that's actually worth its price and staff a little more pleasant!

What we do have is a new courtyard complex in Croosh Alley at 25 Northcote Road. I had a look around on Saturday. There's a couple of small business units and an Opticians (I think) but the biggest space, in such a small space, if you get my drift is a new gym called Fybre.

Ground floor is the reception and studio area and downstairs is the gym with the latest machines and.................................a pool! To be precise it's an 'endless pool' like a running treadmill, so in effect you swim against a current.

Set up by local developer Rus Harrison. You can check it out on www.fybrefit.co.uk or just pop in, they were very friendly to me.

Please dont wish for a Pizza Express to come - support what we already have, Buona Sera is the best neighborhood restaurant, I feel like I'm going to the bar in Cheers when I go there "where everyone knows your name".
Ok, maybe they dont know my name, but they are so friendly and welcoming. And the pizzas are soo much nicer than pizza express.

Where is this new pool in Clapham? I'd love to know.

And am curious about the new gym on Northcote Road - anyone been to have a look? The web-site doesn't publish membership fees, hmmmm, makes me wonder is it frighteningly expensive?

Wow if Debenhams became John Lewis that would be so great, although I bet I'd still jump on 319 to go to Peter Jones, I just love Peter Jones!

A sushi bar would be fab, and a dog grooming place, surely theres enough dogs round here to meet the demand.

Agree with comments about service at Bolingbroke pub. We dont go there any more because of the bolshy attitude of so many of the staff. There is one guy in particular, kind of meditteranean appearance (yes, I am naming and shaming), He is soooooo rude and surly. I went in a few months ago to book a table, there were no customers at all in there, and he was standing at the bar doing some kind of paperwork. He knew I'd walked in but didn't acknowledge me. I waited for a minute or so while he carried on with his paperwork, and eventually I said "Excuse me". Without even looking up he just put his hand up, as if to say wait. I just turned round and walked out and have never been back in. Dont know if he's still there but if the management read this they need to have an overhaul of their staff.

Rant over!

I agree with you Suki1, a good brasserie like the one you name!
and... talking about pizza, I really do miss Marzano as to me Buena Sera is absolutely not as pleasant and kids friendly.
On a shop point of view, when the carpet shop closed I had a quick dream it could become something like The White Company... till I had the biggest disapointment finding out it was just one more estate agent...
What about a decent green-grocer? we used to have Kelly's organics before Space NK came? The Yard (where Fara is now) was a great place too (most fabulous pizzas I ever ate!)
We could also do with a nice good-looking cosy cafe - although I'm really happy to go to Couleur Café on Webbs Road, where my children (and I) love to take their tea.
As a conclusion, I would say anything but another estate agent or burger joint!.... let's dream!...
