Hi
Thanks for the feedback guys.

It's incredibly useful.

1) Photos - yes you should be able to post. One of our new features is that we automatically re-size photos to make it easier. What happens when you try to post?

2) The "New Posts" column on the home page is not updating very quickly. Can I check that your post appeared INSIDE the site at the top of the new topics - this is something we're working on

3) Deleting posts is a tough one. If no-one has replied you should be able to delete it. If someone has replied it makes it harder. Let me look into this.

4) Home page layout. Yes - we're still toying with what is the best layout so may well move editorial, twitter and others around.

Thanks again!

Agree with the comments.

For me the new design makes it harder to quickly see new posts and also differentiate the replies. It would be helpful to see the new posts 'above the fold', i.e. not scroll down to view. Might just be me but I'm less interested in the latest Twitter posts and would therefore rather see the newest posts where Twitter is currently located.

Thanks,
mgb

Hi
When I click on the search function it does not automatically delete the "search this board ...." wording unless I triple click then type. (Hope that made sense??)
Everytime I click just the once and end up having to start all over again and remove the wording.
Many thanks

Hi there

Great work on the new site, it looks much fresher and lots going on.

I have a couple of queries about Annabel's Arcade please. The first is about logging in - it took me about 6 goes to log in today, it kept taking me back to the log in page or saying that I had to log in to post, when I had just entered my details.

Also, how do you look at images when people have attached a photo? I may be being dim, but although I can see a reference to a .jpg on the post, I can' t see any way of being able to view the image, and it doesn't come up as part of the post.

Thanks!

Hi Shopper
Thanks for the comments.

AnnabelsArcade is a bit interesting at the moment.

It is on the list to fix, I also couldn't log in but I thought the photos were showing ok.

Can you link to the post where you can't see the photos?

Thanks!

Hi there

Thanks for your quick reply. It's my own post, I was trying to check the attachment had worked and it didn't, and the person replying also couldn't see the pictures. But I also checked some of the other posts and saw there was the same problem.

However it seems to change! I reposted the picture and both my posts showed it, I've just gone back to get the url and the photos are not showing but are just marked as a reference to the photo title.jpg.

Hi, Annabel. Site is lookin' good.

A couple of mentions:

Is there a way to only search within Annabel's Arcade when looking for things specific? When you search it seems to pull up any and all posts from other sections related to child bike, etc.

Also, in the "Search this Board" field...when I click within it, it doesn't automatically clear out the "search this board" words, and I have to highlight all and delete or backspace to delete. A little wrinkle but I'm sure would make everyone's life a bit easier.

Thanks!

I've almost given up :(

Maybe it's just me being a bit dim though.

I've been trying to PM someone on Annabels Arcade and it keeps telling me to log in- when I've just logged in :?

I'm not such a regular visitor to NVN anymore :(

No, you're not being dim

For some reason AA is logging people out again as soon as they are logged in.

We are racing through the bug list and this is one there, it's just taking a while.

If you post the link here of the item you want I can hook you "off board" with the other person.

If you're not happy for them to see your email address I'll act as a go-between :-)

apologies again and thank you for trying to use AA and NVN

Hi
This is a reply to Rachelko about searching in AA only.

So...the short answer is no, the long answer is yes!

Short Answer

We've moved over to a new search engine which is built into the forum. We used to use Google "custom search".

The new search is fast and accurate. :-)

It is, however, also a bit stupid in that it won't let me tailor the search territory (i.e. AA only, Wandsworth only, Richmond only).

:-(

So...I think we're going to have to go back to Google custom search, which isn't as good but does allow me to offer that.

Sorry, I hope this is a helpful answer and thanks for using NVN!

Any other questions please shout.

A

ps I think we'll have the new search up and running in a week or so

Thanks Annabel :)

I've managed to send a message now by going through the members area on NVN rather than through AA.....

Not sure why it took me so long to realise that was the solution

Hi
David (our developer) has had a busy night and so we should have the following fixed:

1) Richmond does not automatically log you out when you try to post

2) Annabel's Arcade should allow the viewing of pictures and the automatic resizing of pictures. This does not apply to "old" pics but all new adverts should be ok from now on

3) Search bar inside the forums is fixed, the home page search still needs work

Any other issues please keep posting - we're getting there.

Thank you everyone for all your feedback and for using NVN!

I think the site is working really well now, and looks good (except I agree with shuffling around the home page to show the posts higher up but I know that's being worked on)

My only grumble would be that I don't like posts being put onto Twitter. It puts me off posting on the site, especially if its for personal advice, if it then gets broadcast to a global audience.
Now, I know that the internet is global too, but people have signed up to this local website and presumably it is mostly looked at by people who it is relevant too. I have not signed up to Twitter and therefore wouldn't want my posts advertised there.
It isn't so important when it comes to asking advice on a plumber for example, but one of the nice things about this website is that it has felt like a local community and often people ask for quite personal advice.

It will deter me from using the site if there is an automatic link to facebook and twitter. It feels like you could post (relatively anonymously) about your marriage for example, then its on twitter, next its quoted in the Daily Mail...
Sorry to be negative, I really like the site. Maybe I just need to get with the 21st Century!

Hi
Thanks for taking the time to post, I really appreciate it.

It's a good point and to be honest I hadn't really considered it.

Because we receive up to five thousand visits a day and only have 2500 followers on twitter I didn't see Twitter as being the biggest promoter of a post, if that makes sense?

Also most of those twitter followers are the mums that visit anyway so I am not sure we're opening it up to a wider audience, but that is a thought that has just occurred to me as opposed to a deliberate strategy. (if that makes sense)

It is a really interesting point! Are we inviting more people into an almost private discussion by tweeting the details?

Have to say you've foxed me there!

Does anyone else have a view?

Can I think about it for a day or so?

I think dandelion's point makes sense .
Not everyone would like to have their personal issues aired to the world, if that makes sense.

However, some of the posts are worth posting on Twitter and Facebook. The Chelesea and Westminster one for example , more from awareness point of view.

Because the issues tackled are local , a lot of people on my friend list for example wont care about SW11 hospitals but it might catch someone's attention ....and if I think so , I will automatically talk about it on FB and Twitter . I dont think we will need to be prompted to do so .
