Looking to set up a photo-club in the area

Postby amumtoo » Fri Mar 01, 2013 3:03 pm

Hi there, I am looking for other mums amateur/pro photographers to set up a local 'photo club' in clapham/brixton/wandsworth/battersea.

If interested reply to this and we can see how many we are.
Thanks

Ps. - This is an article on photography from my blog where I talk about photography and other stuff

I keep meaning to organise a (free) photo/camera basics class for local mums, if you're interested...

Hi Charlie,

Yes very interested, that's a very kind offer and would be a great start for the photo club.

Interested mums that want to take advantage of this offer - a free photo/camera basics class from a professional photographer - please do get in touch so that we can sort out dates, timings and venue.

Great, we'll see how much interest there is. As far as my schedule goes, weekdays suits, perhaps a Monday... :-)

Hi, I'd be interested in this if somewhere around 'between the commons'. Sounds great.

I think it's a great idea. I would definitely be interested to join, also if between the commons/clapham common area.

Hi there! Just got a new lens for my camera! Definitely would be interested in a photo club. I'm in Wandsworth Common area.

Great to see some interest coming forward.

I work Mon-Thurs so can do this on Friday or in the evening, or Sat morning. Charlie how would this work for you?

What about the other mums, would it be easier to do the class in the evening so that we can concentrate without the children? Another mum has contacted my privately so we are 7 so far.

We can be as many as we want for the photo club and we can meet twice a month for example on Fridays. What about the lesson Charlie do you have a set number in mind? I attended a 10 week class and when we were around 10 I felt the learning was getting through better.

In terms of venues we can do anywhere in clapham common, on battersea rise, clapham south. I will enquire about booking a room, possibly free of charge :)

Hi!

Weekends and evenings are usually difficult and Friday 22 March (if we finish by 3pm) is the only Friday I can do this month, but Saturday 23rd also ok.

I live round the corner from Clapham South tube so anywhere Clapham, Balham, Wandsworth is fine. I was imagining a quiet cafe, but a room might be a better idea.

Yes, up to about a dozen for a class allows me to give a little personal attention to everyone, but we all help each other.

Fine with me if mums have babies with them to save on babysitting, but toddlers or older I guess would be a little distracting for the mum concerned! (I'm used to it though)

In ~3 hours:
- We would look at the basics of camera settings, how to use manual settings - and 'quick cures' for those that just want to stick to the auto/semi-auto settings.
- Plus, 'seeing the light' and basics of composition.
- We practice as we talk through the initial basic theory, then go for a walk to take photos, then post-mortem afterwards.

:)

Hello,

This sounds good. We have then 2 options:

- Friday 22 March

- Saturday 23 March

I can do both and will arrange to come without my 'very spirited' toddler (if I don't manage I will bring him along with lots of snacks lol!)

Can the other interested mums, indicate a preference for one of the dates? We could do 12-3pm for example or a little earlier?

Re the venue I have a few suggestions (space and quiet being key criteria)
- cafe Nero on battersea rise - it has space at the back and is quiet
- coffee first 55 battersea rise - space and quiet
- Bertie and boo in balham the one nearer waitrose which can be quiet although space is limited for buggies
- clapham common band stand cafe, space for buggies but not always quiet

I would be interested too and my preference would be Friday. I have a newborn so would have to bring her but should be fine!

Thanks for setting this up!
