Loving this sunshine! Bank holiday ideas??

Postby HighchairHostess » Wed May 01, 2013 2:12 pm

Isn't this weather AMAZING!!!! Hope everyone else is enjoying it...isn't it so nice that the little ones can just run around outside without all the layers! As much as I love soft play, I was beginning to think we'd never come out of hibernation!

Does anyone know the forecast for the bank holiday weekend?? Any ideas on things to do??

It's supposed to be bright & sunny. We are going to go to RHS Wisley one of the days but would love ideas for things to do locally on the other two days.

What about visiting one of the local farms...

Bocketts Farm or the Urban Farm?

They are both fab! Or closer to home, Richmond Park or Bushy Park are both winners.... picnic in the park perhaps? Pembroke Lodge in Richmond Park is lovely for coffee & cake. It's a shame The Pheasantry isn't open yet.

We love this area in weather like this.

In addition to the ideas above;

Marble Hill Park is also a great place for a picnic - nice areas with some shade for younger ones.

Hampton Court Palace - our kids adore the maze and then you can enjoy the gardens and palace and some good cooking too in the cafes (ice-creams are tasty too!)

Kew Gardens - lots of space to charge about and the high walk-way is a hit with my elder two as you can see for mile.

A boat trip on the Thames - take a boat from Kingston to Hampton Court or hire a rowing boat in Richmond

Good luck - hope you have fun!

Just a word about Wisley. We took our toddler last weekend and it was a bit of a disaster. It's not very family friendly. By 12 noon, all cafes were full and the couple of highchairs in each had people queuing for them. The signposting isn't great either which is frustrating with small people in tow when you end up walking round in circles! Finally you can't walk on the grass there which is tricky trying to explain to a defiant one year old.

Yes, the gardens are lovely but with kids Kew Gardens gets my vote every time. It's brilliantly laid out and even when it's busy you feel like you have masses of space all to yourself. Plus the cafes are well placed and never seem to get crammed to capacity.

And of course it's probably the most beautiful Botanical garden in the world and it's on our doorstep. :D

Hope that's useful! Happy Bank Holiday everyone.
