A new McDonald’s restaurant will soon be built in Wimbledon.

Merton Council has given the fast food chain the green light to build a new restaurant in Plough Lane opposite the new Wimbledon AFC ground.

It will be built on the site of Tile Giant, which will be demolished to make way for the McDonalds.

The application says that the new football ground will increase footfall in the area and the demand for food outlets.

The new building is set to be modular, meaning it is manufactured off site before being brought in pieces to Plough Lane.

And as part of the planning approval, Merton Council has said that demolition and construction cannot take place before 8am or after 6pm Mondays to Friday or after 1pm on Saturdays and not at all on Sundays.

The plans include 22 new parking spaces, but it falls in the Plough Lane Retail Park which currently has 271 spaces.

The application reads: “Safe accessibility has been at the heart of the design process and existing access routes and circulation have been enhanced to ensure safe pedestrian access.

“The McDonald's unit has been sited directly off of Plough Lane pedestrian pavement allowing direct access from the pavement without entering the parking areas.”

What about Wimbledon town centre where there’s no Macdonalds at the moment? The one in Centre Court has gone. Rumours are that one will open in the old Burger King site?
