Floreat School Earlsfield

Postby Earlsfield Mom » Sat Feb 05, 2022 3:00 pm

Hi there,
I'm considering moving my son to Floreat and am looking to know how others have found it.

He's currently in Reception in another Wandsworth school but he is struggling socially, and with the busy/noisy environment. (He's very bright with a diagnosis of ASD, and we are currently waiting for an EHCP.) His current school have a very dated approach to his difficulties, and dislike parental involvement. I'm looking for a more inclusive and nurturing environment. With a more proactive approach to supporting anyone who is struggling.

Floreat has been highly recommended to me. However I would still really appreciate some feedback from other parents who have children there.

It's such a big decision and I want to make sure I'm doing the right thing!

Hi,

We don't attend Floreat but I am wondering if you have considered Swaffield? It is a warm, kind school where our children are thriving. The teachers and staff work to provide a stimulating environment and an enriched curriculum that is fully inclusive. The report from Ofsted highlighted the good work the school is doing for children with special educational needs:

Ofsted report extract:
Leaders’ support for pupils with SEND is highly effective. Leaders know individual pupils’ needs well. They provide adults with regular training to meet these pupils’ needs. Adults use resources skilfully to develop the learning of these pupils. For example, by using a range of media, pupils can recall their prior learning. Adults develop pupils’ social skills through careful questioning and positive interaction. These pupils benefit greatly from this. They are fully included in the school’s life.

Don't do anything until you've established what impact a move might have on the progress of his EHCP but it sounds as if you have two good options above.

Thanks so much for this lifechanger - I have heard and read a lot of great things about Swaffield School recently. And from their website they look like they could be a great fit also, with a great SENCO and SEN provision. Thanks so much for your feedback.

Thanks Kirbs - this is incredibly helpful. It's lovely to hear that they have such an individual approach and keep the parents involved without passing judgement or blame onto them. That's the sort of approach I'm looking for. The calm environment is also a huge draw for us, as it would make leading much easier for my son - less distraction and easier to focus on what the teacher is saying. Again - thanks for your feedback.

Thanks SWTastic - I won't be doing anything until the final draft where we will name our preferred school 👍
