Alderbrook and Ravenstone

Postby Stars and Stripes » Thu Mar 10, 2022 4:41 pm

Could anyone give me some insight to either of these schools. We live on Ramsden Road and not sure which would be better for us, and to be honest if we are likely to get into either? Any information or experience would be invaluable.

I can only speak from experience of Ravenstone but it’s a fabulous school.
We have three children and had felt guilty that we couldn’t stretch to private primary school for them (hopefully will for secondary) but our eldest who is in reception is loving it and doing very well. In fact, he seems to be doing better than some of our friends at Honeywell, Broomwood hall and Thomas’s.

We’re by Tooting Bec common and didn’t get a place on the first round but by July had been offered a place starting last September (he was already in their nursery)

Clearly I have a bias and think that Alderbrook is the best school ever!  However, Ravenstone is also a good school - you are lucky to have the choice!

At this point, we do not know what the distances for school places are and it changes year-on-year anyway.  Knowing where you are, it is likely that you would be offered both.

If you have any further questions, please drop me a link.

They won't be offered both - you only get one school place offered

I have always been a staunch supporter of Alderbrook. I have seen it changing through the years, and it's just a great place for children to be in. They receive the right amount of challenge, they are taught to be inquisitive and encouraged to collaborate and to support each other. It's a small school, which allows everybody (pupils and teachers) to know each other, but still having a separate building for Early Years makes the transition to nursery/reception less daunting.
The teachers are caring and enthusiastic, and I have always been impressed with how they "got" my children's very different personalities; I really like how they are interlinking different aspects of the curriculum.
I know very happy families at Ravenstone, too, so you cannot really get it wrong, but from my experience I only have good things to say about Alderbrook.

Think you'd get into either from there. The council publishes the distances on its website so you can look it up here School admissions statistics and reports - Wandsworth Borough Council. As primary offers go out next month, they will update it for 2022 shortly.

I have had 2 kids go through Ravenstone. Youngest now in Y6. It's a lovely school with good facilities, plenty of space and a friendly community feel. Feel free to message me if you want more info.

Pretty sure Alderbrook is great too. You'll be fine either way. Now Covid restrictions are gone, look out for events like summer fairs as it's a great way to see schools in an informal way.
