Independent School Appeals Service Panel Members

Postby RWCDemocraticServices » Tue Nov 26, 2024 9:54 am

I am writing on behalf of Richmond and Wandsworth Councils’ Democratic Services teams, which administer the Richmond and Wandsworth Independent School Appeals Services.

We are currently looking for individuals interested in supporting our services as volunteer Panel Members.

The roles form an important part of the statutory education framework. Panel members hear appeals from families of children who have not been offered a place at one of their preferred primary or secondary schools. They also hear appeals of children who have been excluded from school, albeit this happens infrequently. All appeals are heard in term time during usual office hours.

Admissions appeals hearings take place remotely via Microsoft Teams, except where a parent or carer has requested an in-person hearing. Successful Panel candidates will therefore need to have their own adequate technology to participate in online meetings in a suitable environment. Training and support will be provided.

Whether the hearings take place virtually or in person, the Appeals Services provide £40 per day expenses to Panel Members.

As part of this recruitment campaign, we are keen to widen the diversity of our pool of panel members and would welcome interest from individuals from all areas of the community.

Interested individuals can find out more and apply for the role using the following website link:

Interviews are held on a rolling basis, and we would welcome your support in reaching out to your service users.

Kind regards,

Michael
