Builder advice

Postby jumping_jose » Tue Mar 29, 2016 8:56 pm

Hi All,

I'm new to NVN, but have often found this website useful when looking for advice/recommendations on certain things in the area.

We're looking to start a building project (side return & loft extension) and have had a few builders to quote for the work. As it's quite a big and expensive project, we were wondering if anyone has ever used or heard anything (good or bad!) about either John Sandars or Falcon Builders (Eddie). Both seem like nice guys and I think we could work with them both, so any thoughts to narrow the search even further would be great!

Thanks Everyone :)

Hi All,

In addition to the above builders (John Sandars and Falcon Builders), does anyone have any recent feedback on Clapham Builders (owner Richard)? They get a lot of positive feedback on NVN, however it seems that these posts were from quite some time ago so wanted to check it was still the case? I can't seem to find many reviews on them elsewhere on the internet apart from here which is strange.

Your thoughts and feedback would be greatly appreciated :D

Hi
We're looking to start a building project (side return & loft extension) and have had a few builders to quote for the work.
Have you seen a copy of our recent Design and Build Guide?

I don't think it references the builders you've asked about (but I hope we'll get some response for you over the next day or so). However there should be other stuff in there that you may find useful. If you email me your address (nappyvalleynet@btinternet.com) I'll order Mr NVN to drop one through your door later today.

Good luck!

I haven't heard of those builders. I have worked with A1 Lofts in the past, with Kiwi Dave's team. They were extremely skilled.

But whoever you decide to go with don't be afraid to ask them to show you previous work they have done and chat directly to some of their previous customers.

All builders will have a list of customers who are only too happy to talk to you about their experience.

Good luck

Similar question but about Foxbury Builders in Wandsworth - does anyone have any experience with them (either positive or not so flattering…)

We are using UpsherHarrison right now on our loft, side return and renovation. Quite a project, and I am delighted with them. No sub-contracting, top quality workmanship, fantastic team, both Nick and Rob are RICS members. Recommend without hesitation. Happy for people to visit and see the work underway 1st hand if interested (just send me a PM).

All the best

My husband Andy is a chartered quantity surveyor and owns a company called Run Projects (runprojects.co.uk). I am sure he would be happy to offer you some free impartial advice as he has worked with many builders. Feel free to give him a buzz on 07980544809 if you want to discuss. Thanks Sophie

Thanks everyone for your replies, it's much appreciated!

In addition to Falcon Builders and Clapham Builders, does anyone have any feedback on Sky High Builders (owner Marvin) and a builder called Derek Ullah that they would be happy to share?

Thanks in advance!
