On Remembrance Sunday, 10 November, ten representatives from Dulwich College’s CCF (Combined Cadet Force) Contingent had the privilege of forming a Guard of Honour for His Majesty the King, members of the Royal Family and prominent UK dignitaries, including former Prime Ministers, as they gathered at the Cenotaph in Central London for the National Act of Remembrance. This solemn event commemorated the men and women who have given their lives in service to their country as members of HM Forces, both domestically and overseas, including those from the Commonwealth since 1914.
Among the representatives were Oliver Dodd, Rupert Potts, Aaron Chapman-Dawe and Ashton Ferdinand, cadets from Dulwich College. They were joined by four cadets from James Allen’s Girls’ School (JAGS). Accompanying them were staff members Scott Swalwell and Jon Fox. Together, they stood in unity, paying tribute to the fallen alongside the nation, marking a significant and memorable contribution to this deeply meaningful national ceremony.
On Monday 11 November at 11am, the entire College community from Junior to Upper School, teaching and operational staff, came together in a moment of unified silence for the annual Remembrance Service to mark Armistice Day. Accompanied by the evocative sound of bagpipes played by Henry Armstrong, the College gathered solemnly at the War Memorial. Two wreaths were laid to honour the fallen, one by Sir Peter Riddell CBE, President of the Old Alleynian Association (OAA), and another by School Captain Toby Polli. The Service was led by the College Chaplain, the Revd. Tim Buckler and the Acting Master, Fiona Angel.
This ceremony remains a cornerstone of the College year, bringing together over 2,000 of the College community. The powerful symbolism and carefully chosen words make this a truly unparalleled event, honouring the spirit of remembrance.
