Eaton Square Senior School Prepares To Open Its Sixth Form

Last Updated on : 4th August 2021

There’s no doubt that a pupil’s education journey culminates in the excitement of Sixth Form. This is when young people can make choices that shape their future and their lives. The right environment, academic support and pastoral care is crucial at this juncture, and Eaton Square Senior School’s new Sixth Form aims to address and deliver in all these areas, enabling pupils to step into a future full of opportunity.

This new Belgravia-based Sixth Form has set itself a high bar by creating a model that is unique. Unlike a traditional Sixth Form, the school’s Preparation for Life programme sits proudly alongside its academic programme. Unlike a Sixth Form College, Eaton Square provides structured academic and pastoral support, and pupils spend much of their day within the school. Sebastian Hepher, Principal of Eaton Square Schools, explains: “Our aim is to balance the pastoral focus and academic framework of school life with the acute knowledge that sixth form pupils merit greater independence and ownership of their educational journey. As such, each student’s timetable is individually tailored to them; their Form Tutor assumes more of a ‘mentor’ role and pupils wear business dress for School – implicitly encouraging them to approach their studies in the same way they would treat their future working environments.”

Unique to this future-looking Sixth Form is their compulsory Preparation for Life programme. This is a series of workshops and seminars designed specifically for this age group to prepare them for life after school in the broadest sense. From personal finance, politics and nutrition to leadership, business and careers, Eaton Square knows that pupils will benefit hugely from these sessions this for decades to come, be it at university, in the workplace or even when starting a family. to take their places as truly global citizens. Many students arrive at university bemoaning a lack of knowledge of personal finance, paying rent, student loans, money meal planning: not so pupils from Eaton Square Sixth Form.

With an eye firmly on achieving strong results for each pupil which reflect their potential, the academic focus is rigorous and supportive, offering individual support and extension sessions, regular assessments to check progress and exam preparation classes. By teaching in small groups, attention to each individual is unparalleled. Alongside three A-levels, pupils can take the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), a sought-after qualification in which pupils produce a piece of work on any subject — a personal interest, or something from their studies — while developing their skills in research, presentation, public speaking, writing, communication and independent study. Pupils have weekly sessions with a supervisor to develop their independent study skills, building strong foundations for university academic life. Head Caroline Townsend says: “We mentor each child to help them decide where they want to go and help them to get there,” explains. “Mentoring allows the child to have more input and we can tailor their personal enrichment ambitions at school to support them, be that Duke of Edinburgh, music or sport.”

Environment plays a key part in the success of any school and the newly refurbished building in Belgravia (a stone’s throw from London Victoria so easily accessible from all parts of London) has been designed specifically to fulfil the needs of Sixth Form pupils. Facilities include a high spec art studio, dark room for photography, multi-purpose science labs, fully resourced library, silent study spaces, contemporary social areas and plenty of light, airy rooms for teaching, collaborative work and meetings. By emphasizing the importance of personal enrichment alongside academic success, Eaton Square Senior School is on track to cultivate individuals enriched with curiosity, self-confidence, a sense of community and an instinctive love of learning.

Don’t miss out!
