Ex abroad and refusing to pay maintenance. Dealing with an aggressive builder. Local developer told rebuild brick-by-brick! Help with PND? Managing our cash on maternity leave: help!

Last Updated on : 27th July 2015

Dear NappyValleyNetter,

We’ve just returned from a gorgeous Mark Warner holiday and Mr NVN is still prattling on about the sailing races he won.

It was hardly The America’s Cup but every now and again he pulls out his winner’s certificate and stares lovingly at it, before starting one of his “did I tell you what happened on the downwind leg” stories.

My eldest was as bored with this spiel as everyone else and on Saturday took me to one side before whispering in a conspiratorial tone.

“Daddy cheated,” he whispered, “and it was really embarrassing.”

A number of the boats were captained by instructors with children as crew, he explained, to teach them how to race.

Mr NVN was involved in pitched battle with one such craft.

“It was a draw until the last turn”, my son continued, “and the boat that had right of way would win.”

“Starboard over port,” shouted the instructor to tell my husband to move.

“Client over staff,” replied by husband and continued on his merry way to victory.

My eldest then shook his head and adopted a tone of voice I’d heard his father use many times, “I wasn’t cross, just very disappointed.”
