Full programme announced for Independent Schools Show 2021

Last Updated on : 14th October 2021

Cut the cost of private education with a trip to the Independent Schools Show

School fees continue to rise, so for the vast majority of families, how to put your child or children through fourteen or fifteen years of private schooling is a very real question.

The good news is that the number of families receiving fee assistance has never been greater. According to the latest ISC census, 179,768 pupils in independent schools, over a third of the total, are now on reduced fees.

Means-tested bursaries can be very generous; across the UK more than half of pupils on such bursaries receive discounts over 50% and 8,116 pay no fees at all. The total value of means-tested fee assistance is now £455m.

The Independent Schools Show has helped thousands of parents to access fee assistance options and find affordable ways to finance their child’s education.

Scholarships & Bursaries

Camilla Smiley, the country’s leading authority on scholarships and bursaries, will be speaking at the Show. Camilla has produced this ‘Talking School Fees‘ guide for our Parents Forum.

The Show provides parents with the perfect opportunity to discuss with schools the availability of bursaries and scholarships.

Consider all the financial factors

Many families will not be eligible for bursaries, but smart financial planning can make a real difference.

With boarding fees now averaging £12,000 per term and day fees over £5,000 per term, fewer parents now pay school fees directly out of their salary. The good news is that there are many smart ways to manage school fees.

Brewin Dolphin’s wealth management team will be at the Show providing expert advice on saving, spreading costs, getting tax efficient help from relatives and covering your child’s education through unexpected income dips.

Brewin Dolphin Directors James Alder & David Quintrell speak regularly on financial planning in our Parent Forums. Recent recordings include:

What price an education – planning your finances

Why do schools provide fee assistance schemes?

“It goes right to the heart of the school’s ethos… I think you will find this is true of many schools that give bursaries, they genuinely want to equip talent wherever it is found to better serve society.”

Mark Bailey, former High Master of St Paul’s School, speaking at the Independent Schools Show.
