Discover Glorious Gitcombe Retreat in 2019 with 15% OFF

Last Updated on : 1st January 2019

A luxurious 5* new house designed and built as part of the family-friendly self-catering cottages on the Gitcombe Estate, South Devon, is available to book from the New Year.

Gitcombe Retreat is a brand new stylish house, designed by award-winning architects and built on the Gitcombe estate which already boasts a unique collection of four and five star self-catering properties perfect for those looking for a holiday or short break. The location combines beautiful scenery, breathtaking views and the amazing accessibility of coast and country that the South Hams delivers so well.

Accessibility is also a key factor that makes Gitcombe Retreat so special. Sleeping eight (plus infants) the property offers full accommodation at ground floor entry level, in the form of a double bedroom and en-suite bathroom for those who are less able. It is situated in a spectacular position accessed via a tarmac drive at the top of the estate adjacent to the indoor pool facilities.  Designed with privacy in mind, there is parking for three cars including a space directly outside the ground floor bedroom.

Peter O’Brien, who owns and runs Gitcombe with his father Rodney, said, “We have been running Gitcombe very successfully for the past five years and decided it was time to create a build that could be enjoyed by absolutely everyone. That is why it was so important to make sure we had accommodation accessible to all and somewhere that could be enjoyed by all members of the family, whatever their age or ability.”

Gitcombe Retreat has been designed by award-winning architects, Roderick James and is an exquisite, stylish and modern property in a commanding position on the estate. Built by local builders, Carpenter Oak with a traditional oak frame design and with spectacular far reaching views across the rolling countryside. There are all the modern luxuries you would expect including underfloor heating, designer bathrooms by award-winning Sapphire Spaces and a heat recovery system.

The open-plan living area has unrivalled views on two sides of the room and comfy sofas invite the family to relax and curl up in front of the stylish Morso log burner, or switch on the flat screen smart TV with its state-of-the-art Sonos sound system. If the weather is good guests can retreat through the bi-folding doors to the wrap-around oak balcony area which has an outside dining table for up to 10 adults – perfect for soaking up views and stargazing!

There’s also a beautiful solid oak dining table, again with seating for 10, waiting in the open-plan kitchen area, and perfectly positioned for those who want to try out their culinary creations conjured up in the generous well-equipped fitted kitchen.

As the soft lighting and warm furnishings conjure up a feeling of balance and calm, guests can be assured the four spacious double bedrooms, designed by local interior designer Holly Keeling Interiors, will continue the relaxing ambience.

Bedroom one is on the ground floor with an accessible luxury en-suite that has been carefully designed to offer the guest ease of access with the same level of detail and design offered in the other designer bathrooms.

The other three bedrooms are on the lower ground floor and benefit from having doors opening onto the garden, bringing the outside in. The master bedroom boasts a super-king bed with room for a cot too. There is also a spacious designer en-suite bathroom with large shower, WC, basin and heated towel rail and gorgeous views across the private garden and fields beyond.

Bedroom three has been configured so that it has the option of being either a double or twin bedroom.  It has the sole use of the main bathroom directly opposite – the largest and most luxurious on the Gitcombe estate – with a walk-in shower with an Ashton and Bentley designer bath.

Finally, bedroom four is not only a spacious super-king room with an en-suite shower and room for a cot, but also has direct access to the hot tub, exclusively for Gitcombe Retreat guests, and the outside seating area complete with barbeque.
