‘Upside down’ house for sale in Battersea stands out from the Northcote Road crowd

Set just off Northcote Road in the heart of Nappy Valley is this unique and striking, architecturally designed, ‘upside down’ five-bedroom house.

It has been built on the site of an ex-coach house and as developer with Zebra Property Group, Jamie Menzies explains, “The land was derelict and in a prime position – it would have been crazy not to build an incredible house on the site. So we started designing it in a joint venture with the owners.

“The brief was something different, stand-out, unique. Something that would make passers-by notice it as well beyond the ordinary.”

Of course, the ‘ordinary’ in this corner of south-west London is Victorian and Edwardian terraces, many in prime locations overlooking the commons or close to much-loved Northcote Road – filled with bars, cafes and restaurants, with independent shops and big-brand names sitting comfortably alongside each other.

“To achieve the brief, we needed a great design,” Jamie continues. “We wanted modern living, free and open space, but also private areas which are so important for growing families so everyone can have their own space and time. So often with teens, parents find they want more broken-plan than open-plan, and we have achieved both here. There are four roof terraces, with one particularly stand-out outside space perfect for entertaining with privacy yet with amazing views out across Northcote Road where there’s such a great vibe.”

The exterior features louvres, sun fins and cladding, interspersed with striking vertical glazed windows. Inside, the stunning central staircase is crucial to the flow of the house and in the basement, the great ceiling height results in spacious and bright living spaces – not an afterthought or add-on but built into the plans from scratch.

The interiors have all been designed to the highest specifications with the principal living areas arranged at the top of the house to maximise the light and the views. The kitchen/family room has engineered wood flooring, stunning quartz worksurfaces, a large island/breakfast bar and top-of-the-range Miele appliances and extraction. The luxurious principal suite includes a walk-in wardrobe and a freestanding Lusso Stone bath. Bespoke cabinetry and floor-to-ceiling picture windows are featured throughout the house which measures just over 2,900 sq ft.

Beyond the modernity and cutting-edge design, sustainability was also at the core of the plans. Jamie explains, “We have air source heat pumps, solar panels and fire suppression systems in every room. There’s also wiring in every room for speakers and a modern entry system at the impressive and oversized front door.”

For anyone looking to find a luxurious new-build right in the beating heart of Battersea, just a 10-minute walk from Clapham Junction and 15-minutes to Clapham South on the Northern Line, you might just have found it here in one of our neighbourhood’s most recently revealed grand designs.
