Putney High School GDST, a girls’ school located on a leafy campus on Putney Hill, south-west London, is renowned for its academic excellence, nurturing pastoral care, and a wide range of extra-curricular activities. With a student body of girls aged four to 18 from the Junior School through to the Senior School, the school offers an experience that is both unique and comprehensive. The Senior School and Sixth Form Centre adjoin the Junior School, allowing the sharing of not only ethos and culture but also many facilities.

This year’s GCSE results were outstanding, with excellence across the board and at least half receiving the top grade 9 in Maths and Computer Science. Almost half of entries achieved the top 9 grade, while some 92% were awarded grades 9 – 7.  For the second year running 15% of the year group achieved a straight run of at least 9 grade 9s.

A-level results were also outstanding, with 8% of grades at A*, three quarters of grades at A* or A, 19 students achieving three or more A*, almost 90% securing their first choice of university, plus the school’s strongest-ever science results. Students achieved 57% of grades at A* in Biology, 45% of grades at A*A, 95% at A*A in Chemistry, 36% of grades at A* and 73% at A*A in Physics. Oxbridge results were among Putney’s best ever with 13 students taking up places.

Pastoral care is a top priority. The school’s commitment to student wellbeing is evident in the various initiatives and support systems in place. Students are encouraged to speak up and seek help when needed, fostering a supportive and caring environment.

Extra-curricular activities are a significant part of the school experience. There are 150 clubs to get involved in, from forensic psychology and medical society to gardening, and 100 trips per year. The application process is highly competitive, with bespoke online exams followed by Athena assessments for successful candidates.
