Ofsted conducted a short inspection of Redbridge High School on 7 March 2019, following its previous outstanding judgment in February 2015. The inspection confirmed that the school continues to provide an outstanding quality of education. The leadership team has effectively maintained high standards, demonstrating a clear vision focused on developing pupils' communication skills and independence. This commitment, combined with high-quality teaching, ensures that pupils are well-prepared for their future educational endeavors. The staff and governors share this vision, prioritizing the best interests of the pupils.
The school fosters a caring environment where staff demonstrate a deep understanding of each pupil's needs. They work closely with parents and carers, going above and beyond to support students. The positive relationships between pupils and staff reflect this ethos. The transition to a new building has been managed effectively, creating a calm and welcoming atmosphere. Staff express pride in their work and appreciate the professional development opportunities provided, as well as the emphasis on their well-being.
High-quality teaching enables pupils to make excellent progress. Clear communication and well-established routines contribute to smooth lesson delivery. Resources are utilized skillfully, ensuring all pupils can participate actively in lessons. Support staff are effectively deployed, providing necessary assistance to help every pupil develop their skills. The local authority holds the school in high regard, recognizing its commitment to increasing pupil enrollment.
The school has successfully addressed previous recommendations regarding the accountability of middle leaders by enhancing training opportunities. Four leaders now hold nationally recognized qualifications, with more staff pursuing similar credentials. This has heightened awareness of accountability among school leaders. The introduction of new roles has strengthened connections between classroom staff and senior leaders, resulting in clearer lines of responsibility and a better understanding of the impact of middle leaders' work.
Safeguarding practices are robust, with a strong culture of safety throughout the school. Leaders prioritize pupils' well-being, ensuring all staff receive thorough training in safeguarding procedures. Staff are vigilant about potential risks, and statutory checks on staff suitability are conducted diligently. The safeguarding governor maintains oversight through regular meetings with the designated safeguarding officer, ensuring effective monitoring of processes.
Pupils feel safe and know they can share concerns with trusted adults. The inspection also focused on attendance rates, which have historically been above the national average due to medical needs affecting some pupils. The school has implemented effective systems to support regular attendance and ensure the safety of absent pupils. Attendance at governors' meetings has improved, indicating increased effectiveness in holding leaders accountable.
The curriculum is highly individualized and flexible, equipping pupils with essential communication skills and fostering independence. Pupils achieve academic qualifications that facilitate access to various courses at local colleges, with strong links ensuring successful transitions. Off-site visits provide valuable experiences, preparing pupils for life beyond school. Recent data shows that all leavers have successfully transitioned to new settings.
Moving forward, it is crucial for leaders and governors to ensure that new leaders possess the necessary experience and expertise to maintain the outstanding quality of education as pupil numbers increase. The inspection findings highlight the school's strengths and areas for continued development, reinforcing its commitment to excellence in education.
