The school operates under a Royal Charter and is governed by the Council of the Corporation of Rossall School. It comprises three departments: an Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) for infants aged 2 to 7, a junior school for pupils aged 7 to 11, and a senior school, including a sixth form for students aged 11 to 19. The school accommodates boarders from the age of 7 in eight boarding houses, which include a mixed junior house and separate houses for senior boys and girls.
Since the last inspection, Rossall School has made significant improvements, including the construction of a new sports centre and performing arts centre. A new head was appointed in September 2018, bringing fresh leadership to the institution.
