The school operates a first-come, first-served policy for nursery admissions from age two-and-a-half, with most children progressing to reception. Class sizes are capped at 20 up to year 2, increasing to 22 from year 3, ensuring a personalised learning experience. During our visit, we observed a mix of full and less populated year groups, with one year group having just six girls, described as an anomaly by the school.
Academically, the school provides a gentle yet thorough approach. From year 4, classes are split into two learning groups for core subjects, allowing the school to offer a bespoke education that goes beyond standard expectations. Specialist teachers deliver a curriculum that includes both French and Spanish, and we were particularly impressed by the French speaking skills demonstrated by year 6 pupils. The use of iPads from year 3 supports homework, which builds to around an hour a night by year 6, with flexibility for those who need it.
The school places a strong emphasis on music, drama, and art, with singing being particularly valued. Choir classes are timetabled, and there are numerous opportunities for pupils to perform both in and out of school. The performing arts are taught by a professional actor, who also runs a popular theatre school on site. Almost half of the pupils participate in LAMDA, achieving high distinctions, and the school has seen success with drama scholarships.
Sports are an integral part of the school’s offering, with a notable achievement from the netball team, which finished as runners-up in the 2021 IAPS final. Football is also thriving, led by a semi-professional player who is passionate about women’s football.
