The Croft Preparatory School, an independent co-educational day school established in 1933, is located in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire. The welfare, health, and safety of pupils are also prioritized, with good behavior promoted and bullying effectively prevented. However, some recruitment checks on staff were not adequately completed prior to employment, which the school addressed during the inspection.

The school maintains appropriate checks to ensure the suitability of staff and keeps a register as required. The premises and accommodation meet the necessary standards, providing suitable facilities for pupils’ medical and therapy needs. The school publishes a range of information for parents, including details about the curriculum, admissions, and the complaints procedure, all of which are compliant with the standards.

However, the leadership and management of the school were found lacking in demonstrating the necessary skills and knowledge to consistently meet safeguarding standards. The inspectors recommended that the leadership improve its effectiveness to ensure the well-being of pupils is actively promoted.

The educational quality inspection highlighted the excellent academic achievements of pupils, who demonstrate outstanding attitudes toward learning. They are competent communicators, exhibit strong collaborative skills, and show a willingness to take initiative. Pupils achieve high levels of knowledge and skills across all areas of learning, with many excelling in music, sports, and the arts. The school prepares pupils well for their future educational endeavors, with most leavers gaining places at competitive grammar and independent schools.

Pupils also exhibit excellent personal development, demonstrating resilience and a strong moral compass. They are socially aware and contribute positively to their community, engaging in various initiatives and charitable activities. The school fosters a culture of respect and tolerance, encouraging pupils to understand and appreciate diverse cultures and backgrounds.

The inspection concluded that while the school excels in many areas, there are specific action points that need addressing, particularly concerning recruitment practices and the effectiveness of leadership. The school is advised to further challenge more able pupils to deepen their thinking across all subjects.
