Husband and MIL think daughter obese | Catch up with our Weekly Newsletter

Dear NappyValleyNetter,

Mr NVN reprised his Santa Claus role for a l̶u̶c̶k̶y̶ local school last week.

Like an ageing rockstar with one last world tour in him, he pulled on his big red suit whilst groaning that it all fitted so much better in the old days (i.e. 2018).

And although he loves playing Father Christmas, he finds some elements a little daunting, especially when over excited children tell him what they want and he has to acknowledge he’s heard without promising to deliver.

“With great power comes great responsibility,” he said pompously over a post-grotto beer.

Then the phone rang.

“That’ll probably be the neighbours across the road,” said Mr NVN with an accompanying sly grin, “they should have found out by now.”

“And?” I said, waiting for the explanation.

“Well, they feed those bin-shredding foxes so I told their daughter she could have a pony” at which point he morphed into full-on bad Santa mode, “and to keep screaming until they agree.”

Here’s what you have been talking about this week on NappyValleyNet:

P.’s husband and her mother have been commenting on the weight of her two year old daughter and asks if warm milk before bedtime can make a child obese? Although some people might view this as trivial I think one has to be really careful around any body image issues, sensitive replies only please (read more).

More discussions on diet; and this time in response to B. who’s a vegetarian, but their husband would prefer their son has more meat (read more). Mr NVN once ordered ‘Chickn’ in a restaurant and didn’t know it was vegan. Five years on and he still won’t shut up about it.

Q. has unknowingly invited an unvaccinated godson from South Africa to stay over the holidays. She now can’t decide whether to hide the fact from her elderly mother or uninvite him which will mean him spending Christmas alone (read more)? On the one hand I think this is a tricky issue but the words “elderly mother” make it quite straight forward right?

I. would love to have a daughter after having two sons and wonders if there is there anything she can do to increase her chances? I heard eating cheese would help having a girl or was that a boy!?! (read more)

S. should take a look at our NappyValleyNet Christmas market for hamper inspiration from a whole host of local businesses. Great for anyone who likes to leave their Christmas shopping until the very last week to ensure they’re fully in the Christmas spirit! (read more) No folk duos I promise!
