Indecent stranger danger outside local school: man arrested. Getting a school deposit back? Spark has gone in our relationship, help! Where to buy a MASSIVE curry?

Last Updated on : 6th October 2014
Dear NappyValleyNetter,
“Make sure the harnesses are well fastened and if you have any piercings or jewellery please remove them now.”

It was my daughter’s birthday party and we’d booked an indoor climbing centre for her and a gaggle of primary school friends.

The instructor was going through the final stages of his briefing whilst a few parents, whom I’d drafted along as helpers, fastened buckles and tightened straps.

A little voice then piped up from the back, interrupting all the activity .

“My Mummy couldn’t do climbing.”

“Why is that?”, asked the instructor, “is she scared of heights?”

“No,” she replied, “she has a piercing and she couldn’t take it out in front of everyone.”

I can honestly say that I’ve never seen so many parents freeze and desperately try to think of something to say which is not the obvious follow up question.

They needn’t have bothered, one of her school friends stepped up to the mark.

“Where is it?”

“It’s meant to be a secret but we all know it’s in her…”

I won’t finish the sentence because this email won’t get past your spam filters but yes, she did honestly say loudly and clearly just where you’re thinking and it made me realise we can keep very very few things hidden from our children.
