Mobile phone mast to be built near school? Open letter to my noisy neighbours. Last minute birthday cancellations: rude?

Last Updated on : 21st July 2014

Dear NappyValleyNetter,

It’s not often I’m outmaneouvered by Mr NVN.

But it happened last week.

We’d spent the evening at my youngest’s school, they were hosting an art exhibition for pupils from reception all the way to year 6.

It was great fun but mainly because I got a little, well OK a lot, distracted by the free bar and didn’t actually make it to any of the classrooms.

Mr NVN, however, had done a dutiful sweep of all the relevant displays and even taken photos to prove he’d seen the right “pieces.”

“What was your favourite thing of mine?” came the inevitable question at breakfast the next morning.

“Oh mummy liked the puppet, didn’t you?” chipped in Mr NVN.

I walked straight into the trap, mistakenly thinking he was throwing me a lifeline I grabbed it.

“Yes, I really really loved puppet, the colours were lovely.”

“And what were the colours?” asked Mr NVN, “I can’t quite remember.”

“Oooh, I don’t need to tell you,” I replied, “they’re Mummy’s favourite colours.”

Not a great reply but I was on the spot.

Mr NVN smirked, “yes and the next present we buy Mummy will be in big bright puppet colours, OK kids?”

There was nodding all around the table and then my youngest whispered in my ear, “that’s so weird, I never knew you liked yellow and green.”
