What’s my perfect Prom dress style for my Shape?

Last Updated on : 13th April 2023

Do you know your style and what suits your body shape. If the answer is yes, then you are one in a million and the perfect customer and shopping should be a joy for you.

However, many don’t and it gets even more complicated when faced with the task of choosing the perfect gown for Prom particularly when everybody is looking at the same on-line shops and same dresses.   Prom Dress shopping can be extremely daunting and stressful but it should be fun!

At Confetti Bridesmaids we stock over 200 beautiful, on trend occasion dresses in a huge array of colours, fabrics and styles so we are experts at what works.  Here are some tips to help with the process of choosing the perfect Prom Dress so that at your special event you will feel confident that you look and feel the best.  And of course, with a dress from Confetti Bridesmaid you’ll also have the confidence that nobody else will be wearing the same dress as you!

Rectangle Body Shape

A great dress for a rectangle body is one with a cinched in waist. Empire line dresses, princess and wrap dresses are also great choices for the rectangle body. Stay away from baggy or shapeless garments except a shift dress is the one exception. Thanks to its clean lines and tailoring, a shift dress will sit nicely on a rectangle body with a small bust and flat bottom.

Choose necklines that are V-neck, Cowl Neck, Sweetheart and Bardot as these are all great choices for your Rectangle shape.

Pear Body Shape

Dresses should draw attention to the waist while concealing the lower body. Great dress choices are A-line or X-line dresses. Dresses with a wider shape around the bottom area are more effective in balancing out the hips. That is because tight-fitting dresses accentuate the hip area, whereas looser styles neatly skim over them. They will also balance out the upper body and excellent for a Pear-shaped body.

Choose necklines that are Bardot, Square and Cowl Neck.

Inverted Triangle Body Shape

The right dress for the Inverted Triangle body adds volume at the hips to balance your shoulders. To achieve this, look for dresses that flare from the waist or hips. Simple, straight lines, shift dresses and A-line styles are great. Strapless dresses are a great way of showing off your shoulders. But make sure you balance them out by adding volume to the hips.

Choose necklines that are one shoulder, V Neck and Halter Neck.

Apple Body Shape

The right dress for the Apple body shape skims over the midsection without clinging to the body. A-line dresses, empire-line and bias-cut styles are great examples of dresses that take attention away from the mid-riff. Shoulder, neckline and sleeve details on dresses will ensure the eye is drawn upwards and away from the torso.

Choose necklines that are V Neck, Sweetheart, Square and Strapless.

Hourglass Body Shape

Dresses for the hourglass body shape should draw the focus to the waist without adding extra volume to the bust. ‍Nipped in dresses are excellent. Wrap dresses are great too, as they create a nice silhouette, accentuate the waist and tailor the midriff without making it look boxy. Avoid dresses with straight lines or boxy cuts since they cover your curves and make you appear heavy.

Choose necklines that are Bardot, sweetheart, square and v neck.
