We all know that when trying to learn a new skill consistency is key! Swimming is no exception! Our lessons run year round, with Crash Courses running over the summer holidays and half terms. Whilst you can learn a lot in the space of a week long Crash Course nothing can replace consistent year round swimming when it comes to building confidence and muscle memory in the water.
Swimming year round is a great way to support other sports and exercise, improve your mental and physical health, and improve your safety in the water! You don’t want to find out on holiday you’ve forgotten all those important swimming skills from the previous summer!
Why is it important to learn to swim?
Swimming is not only fun, it’s a life skill! Swimming is important for your safety, and not just in the summer. It’s important to educate ourselves on the dangers of playing on the ice, falling into cold water, and how best to help in an emergency. Most importantly though, keep yourself safe by learning to swim!
RLSS reminds us that it’s important to pay attention to your surrounding and that small children and pets are at the most risk of winter drownings, read here for their tips on winter safety: https://www.rlss.org.uk/pages/category/winter-water-safety
Swimming is good for your health! (and your mental health!)
Swimming is great for your mental and physical wellbeing! While the weather might not be the best for exercising outside, the swimming pools are warm all year round! Swimming gets you moving, which can help with SAD, depression, and getting us out of the house in those winter months!
Swimming is great for injury prevention, it improves flexibility, muscle tone and is a great option for low impact cardiovascular exercise! The British Heart Foundation recommends swimming for those who’ve experienced a cardiac event, as it’s a low impact activity https://www.bhf.org.uk/informationsupport/heart-matters-magazine/activity/swimming . Swimming is even shown to improve your bone density and can improve your ability to participate in other sports and activities!
What’s holding you back from learning to swim?
As swimming is a life skill, it can affect people on a profound level. This explains why young children instinctively are scared and cling to their swimming teachers or parents. In adults, it can exhibit as stiff muscles, anxiety, panic attacks or in various other ways.
Some swimmers get in on their first lesson, and within a few minutes are splashing up and down the pool, like they’ve been doing it for years. Others are cautious and take longer to relax into the water. Our teachers at Cindy’s are passionate and genuinely want all their swimmers to have the best swimming journey.
We know learning to swim can be daunting for anyone of any age, children through to adults, and we’re here to make the experience as safe and fun as we can. We all genuinely love swimming and we want you to love it too!
