Wimbledon High School Wins Independent Girls’ School of the Year

Staff and students at Wimbledon High School, part of the Girls’ Day School Trust, are delighted to have won Independent Girls’ School of the Year.

 

In addition, their innovation in academic, pastoral and partnership work has been recognised by their being on the national shortlist of the best schools in the country.

The most outstanding individuals and institutions that the independent sector has to offer have been recognised in the shortlist for the 2019 Tes Independent School Awards. Wimbledon High School has been shortlisted for Senior School of the Year, as well as for Wellbeing Initiative of the Year (for its pastoral programme GROW) and for the Creativity Award (due to its innovation in cross-curricular learning and its STEAM focus – that’s science, technology, engineering, arts and maths.

Tes editor Ann Mroz said: “Independent education in this country is truly world class. It’s one of our great success stories. And those shortlisted for the Tes Independent School Awards are the crème de la crème.

“We received a record number of entries this year and the standard is the highest yet, so to be shortlisted is an extraordinary achievement for any school.” The winners will be revealed at a gala awards evening at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane on Friday 1 February 2019. Wimbledon High has also been shortlisted in the i25 awards celebrating the year’s influencers and innovators for the work of Jenny Cox, WHS Director of Co-curricular, Charities and Partnerships, in spearheading new initiatives with local schools, including an extensive Teach Together programme.
