Whether you’re feeling smug because you completed all of your Christmas shopping in November, or you haven’t even started it yet because in your mind Christmas doesn’t begin until December, then this month will either be one of festive fun, relaxation or last minute panic! Most likely a combination of all three, but either way our new calendar will help inspire the festive fun element of December. Christmas carols, fairs and theatre

It’s Clapham’s turn to switch on its Christmas lights tomorrow evening. Head to The Polygon to see the lights switched on by a majestic flying Billy Goat (wow!) with the help of special guest Miriam Margolyes. There will also be delicious festive treats, warming mulled wine, performances from a whole host of brilliant school choirs and carol singing (read more).

There’s a Christmas carols concert taking place this very evening at St Mary & St John The Divine, Balham. The concert has been organised by local opera production company, Rogue Opera, and is in support of Trinity Hospice (read more).

More Christmas carols are happening this weekend outside Holy Trinity Church, Clapham Common. Join them for Carols on the Common with food trucks and mulled wine to accompany the seasonal singing (read more).

It’s Ravenstone Primary School’s Winter Fair this Saturday. Fair highlights include face painting, sports games, a wishing tree, Santa’s grotto, raffle, hampers and movies with popcorn, as well as a barbecue, mulled wine and hot chocolate to satisfy all the attendees! (read more)

Telferscot Primary School are also holding their Winter Fair this Saturday. Head their way for Christmas treats including happy hampers, treasure bags, Santa’s grotto, food and craft stalls, biscuit decorating and a raffle (read more).

4th Streatham Sea Scouts are selling Christmas trees & plants this weekend from outside the Wandsworth Youth Riverside Club on Putney Embankment. All money raised goes towards helping to fund the running of this local Scouts group (read more).

Cinderella is on at the Polka Theatre this festive season and beyond. This version concentrates on Cindy and Ella: the REAL ugly sisters. Cindy and Ella meet a Prince who isn’t so charming and a fairy godmother who’s not what she seems and Ella must save her sister from a terrible fate before midnight strikes, will she make it in time? Next week sees the start of 22 performances of Aladdin at the Civic Suite in Wandsworth. Tickets for the thrilling show begin at £6 for the weekday matinees and £10 for evening shows, making theatre more accessible for all this Christmas. Ticket sales will help to raise funds to enhance public halls, community centres and green spaces throughout Wandsworth (read more).

Paul’s Cancer Support Centre are holding their Christmas Carol Concert next Thursday evening at St Mary’s Church, Putney, where they will be joined by the Fulham Camerata Choir who will sing all your Christmas favourites. Tickets for this uplifting festive evening of music and celebration also include a glass of fizz and mince pie (read more).

The annual Christmas Tree Festival at St Mary Magdalene, Wandsworth Common, is back next weekend. Stroll through the Victorian church with a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie, surrounded by a forest of sparkling Christmas trees. Children can enjoy some fun activities and visit Santa in his grotto. Plus there will be refreshments and stalls and a great prize draw (read more).

The Home-Start Wandsworth Carol Service sees a host of celebrity readers flocking to St Anne’s Church in Wandsworth the week after next. Come along for mulled wine, mince pies and a very special evening of Christmas music, readings and carols, all in aid of a fantastic local cause (read more).

Christmas camps and activities

The Playhouse Playgroup based in Wandsworth Common has a Christmas fundraiser week taking place at the moment, a week packed full of fun activities for children aged from 18 months – 5 years old. Taking place this morning is a Christmas treasure trail and tomorrow morning a Christmas party with children’s entertainer (read more).

If you have a child aged 3-4 years old who could be interested in drama then Let’s Act are offering a free trial in their mini musical theatre classes taking place at Freshground and Belleville School. The classes include solving a problem using singing and performance skills, working on the class termly show and learning a new musical theatre song and dance each week (read more).

It’s not just the humans who get to put on their finest wares this Christmas, Wurkshop in Barnes are ensuring that your furry friends get to look their finest over the festive season too! During the sew your pet a Christmas costume course children will design their pet’s Christmas costume, learn how to work a sewing machine and how to hand sew details. Playball have a Christmas holiday camp running the week after next for those aged 3-8 years. There will be treasure hunts, Christmas twists on favourite Playball games and skills, bouncy castles and all the coaches will be dressed as elves. FC Battersea is holding 3 days of Football Fun at Falcon Park during the Christmas week to hone those football skills right before the Christmas Day festivities begin. The camp is for boys and girls aged 8-14 years old (read more).

WenLin Chinese School are running a Winter Mandarin Activity Camp at Belleville School during the Christmas week for those aged 5-12 years old, if exercising your child’s mind just before Christmas is just what Santa ordered (read more).

If learning to touch type could be the gift of Christmas for your child then QWERTYkids have both a remote course running over the holidays and a 12 Days of Christmas flexi course that can be completed anytime over 12 days in the Christmas holidays. Perhaps coding is more your child’s thing? If so, Cypher Coding are running a Winter Wonderland of creative coding camp during the week before Christmas at Finton House school. Children aged 5-12 years will learn to code using tools like Scratch and Javascript, while exploring winter traditions, arctic animals and some of the more fantastical elements of the season (read more).

Our Cello Community is a well-established Suzuki cello studio with individual lessons based on King’s Avenue, SW4, and group lessons on Saturday mornings at West Hill Primary SW18. Shaftesbury Park Primary School has an Open Morning taking place today. Book your place to hear all about the award-winning school, meet the Headteacher and ask any questions you may have (read more).

There’s a taster morning taking place at Northcote Senior this Friday. Plus, bookings are still being taken for small group show arounds of Northcote Lodge and Broomwood Hall Lower and Upper Schools, as well as private tours of all the Northwood Schools (read more).

The Roche School has an Open Morning taking place in January. The Open Morning begins with a presentation by the Principal and Head Teacher which outlines the school’s principles, curriculum, resources and pastoral care. Visitors are then shown around the school by a pupil (read more).

Camp Suisse Ski Camp will once again be welcoming individual youngsters aged 7-17 years old back to the slopes of Switzerland during February Half Term.
