I live very near Ernest Bevin College and the head teacher is ALL.. When we first moved in, the head teacher was obviously weak and the pupils were so badly behaved, the police almost had a permanent presence and books were seen being thrown from windows and screams from teachers trying to control the rabble.. Then came Chivers.. A hard nut head.. It all pretty much stopped. The boys were educated to take a pride in their school, and to realise the represent their school all the way home. They used to get out of the way when other pavement users walked. They did this because a group of big boisterous lads can have an intimidating effect even if they don't mean it.
They were polite and respectful..
what we have now is something in the middle. Not intimidating teens, but going that way.. more police visits and poorly turned out kids even at the start of the day... I'm not saying they should all look like clones as the Greycoat girls do, I welcome character and stupid hairstyles....but kids need to understand their place and if they want respect then earn respect, if they want rights, they go with responsibilities...

I think the schools should be involved. If the kids are wearing school uniform, they are still representing the school. Fighting with rival schools is a problem. I know both my teenagers have had intimidating behavior from teenagers going to the Bolingbroke Academy outside the Spar on Northcote Road. There used to be a gang standing outside the Spar name calling and general verbal abuse (I don’t think it ever got physical) but still very unpleasant. The Spar has recently closed, so do not know if it is now going on elsewhere.

Presumably the parents are at work, for most if them at least.
I think schools have to be involved as they are wearing their uniforms. No solutions will be found if it is not joint effort between schools, parents and council.
The article says exactly that.

The problem is if the child is not involved in clubs then this is prime time for boredom with presumably no one at home to answer to and school finished. There is no or very little facilities for teenagers.

It's not the job of headteachers to supervise children after the school day has ended

What is this world coming to?? Where are the head teachers.?. They should be patrolling Wimbledon town centre all day. The kids represent their schools until they reach home.
